Obviously... all focus should be on getting an insane fortune for Jack Johnson from the Penguins. JR is clearly going senile... you may be able to get JJ with some money retained, a 2nd or 3rd and Rust, who you could flip if you did not want him for the near future.

Too much term remaining. The only way the Kings should consider taking Johnson is if there's a 1st coming back, and Pittsburgh has already traded away their 1sts for the next two drafts.

I could see the Kings taking Johnson for a 2nd if Pittsburgh retains 50% of his salary. Aside from that, Johnson to LA isn't gonna happen.

The Jets are drafting Anton Lundell. They aren't getting the #2.

If the HockeyBuzz mock draft is to be believed, Lundell will be off the board by the time it's Winnipeg's turn.

Can add Tyler Bozak to this list, basically same as everything said for Steen except only partial NTC.

If Steen is moved, it's likely there's a backroom deal where he gets bought out and signs a min contract with STL. A STL 2nd wont be enough to get a team to agree to this but maybe a 2021 first would get it done.

So in this scenario, Steen moves to the Kings for a 2021 first. They Kings buy him out. Steen then re-signs with the Blues.

Why would LA buy out Steen and extend his cap hit for a year? They don't need the space this season. I imagine they'd just eat his contract and give him a spot in the lineup.

The scenario presented shows LAK buying out Steen and then STL extending him, not LAK extending him.

The cap hit for LAK would be 3.41mm in 20/21 and 1.16mm in 21/22.

Buyout cost would be 1.16mm each of those years.

So total cap hit would exceed salary in 20/21, and the cash out for the '21 first rounder would be 2.33mm total.

The roster spot could then be freed up.

Roster spot could be freed up easily enough by sending him to Ontario. However, the Kings actually have a need for an extra LW next season, so I would imagine they'd keep him and play him on a line with Amadio and Carter.

There's no way they can make the buyout/re-sign a part of the agreement. The league would hit both teams with circumvention penalties. There's no practical reason why the Kings would acquire Steen to buy him out. They have the cap space to eat his contract and could fit him on the roster.
