How does a player who was never really that good need a change of scenery?
- Rinosaur

He has shown some flashes in the playoffs and is still quite young. I dont see him as a top 6 center but he could turn into a really good 3C.

Remember, Dupuis and Wheeler are two guys off the top of my head that looked pedestrian early and turned into really nice players.

Bennet has been often rumoured and treviling apparently is shopping him.
They are interested in Murray, and a 2nd or 3rd to take jj would be ideal. Maybe they would put Rittich in play.
If JR pushes enough there is a trade here that would benefit the pens greatly.
The only thing this would be an admission of a mistake signing jj, and he might be reluctant .

Rittich to the Pens? I think CGY would want him as one of their tandem and I would rather roll the dice with DeSmith as the backup and look for a different vet backup later on if he doesn't work out.

I'm pretty sure JR has admitted his mistake through his moves so far. Plus, this would actually give him an out, saying he had to pay a steep price for a former #4 overall pick and JJ was a part of the price.

It's not like he didn't play around quality players in Calgary. I'm not against it, but I just wouldn't expect much.

Honestly how close is Bennett to Bonino? Bonino was never a great regular season guy he was decent but showed up in the playoffs. If Bennett could be close to that, I'd take it.

Edit: Looked up points, they are pretty comparable. I love his playoff stats haha.

I don’t really get into GM role play. I do however like Sam Bennett

Yea I don't watch Calgary unless the Pens are playing them, but seems like a good solid 3c for us.

Pretty sure most people would much prefer watching the Islanders play than that dumpster fire of a team you guys iced this year in the play-ins. Imagine losing to Montreal in a playoff series...
I'm sure Mike Matheson will solve all your problems though.

Same here. Bennett reminds me a bit of Bonino when it comes to his recent playoff performance. Bones true value came in the playoffs, especially in 2016-17 when the HBK line lit it up. I would love to recapture even a fraction of that magic again. Just got to find another Hagelin and Kessel to go alongside him lol

If we’re playing armchair GM; Murray, JJ, 2022 2nd for Bennett, 2021 5th.

Then sign Bobby Ryan.

You forgot the "wow" at the end. Any line involving Ryan needs a Palmer wow at the end. Preferably all lowercase with no dashes, but whatever.

Blues were a good fancy stat team last season.
Pens were a good fancy stat team both cups.
Kings were a good fancy stat team in 2014.
Hawks were a good fancy stat team in 2013.

But.. does a line of McCann-Bennett-Tanev have enough scoring punch?
- nateca44

No, but it's a step up from what we have now. We somehow managed to get leas scoring punch in the bottom 6 despite better 3rd line scoring being a top priority.

Bonino has been a pretty reliable 35 points or more guy, and the last time Bennett broke 30 points was seasons ago. I kind of like Bennett and could take a chance at the right price, but Bonino is a decent bit better IMO.

Yea Bonino had 29 and 37 point seasons. I think Bennett would be anywhere from 25-35 so it's not that far off. If we can get a better center I'm all for it, but I just don't see it at the moment. McCann-Bennett-?

The thing that worries me the most is JR saying he's going to wait out the first few days of FA. That's got bargain bin shopping and overpaying for a player no one else wants written all over it.

Yeah but Tampa is the climax of the stats circle jerk. Small, boring, vanilla. Speedy crybaby’s getting their way. Would of loved to see the 12 Kings vs this Tampa team.
