They shouldn't buy him out. You also have to look at player morale towards the organization. The players invest their blood, sweat, and tears into a team. It doesn't have to be treated as only a business. They should find a trade for Giorgiev, and let Hank stay as the back up. It will most likely be a shortened season next year, so goalies can take more of a 50/50 split. Rangers aren't a Stanley Cup contender yet, so no need to rush that. Let Hank finish with the Rangers and dignity. I don't view Giorgiev as anything more than a backup with Shesty here. I think Giorgiev would rather be traded than sign with Rangers and be a backup for his entire career.
In regards to who would back up after next season, the Rangers have Tyler Wall up and coming. If he is not ready, there should be plenty of FA signings for a cheap backup. - Hedgedog32
“It’s just business Sonny, it’s not personal”.
This notion that the organization owes him the right to finish his career as a Ranger is ridiculous. He signed a contract for 8 years at 8.5 mil, and was paid. This is not Mark Messier here, sorry. Sather created this dilemma by not having the foresight or caring what a 38 year old goalie would look like In 2021, now JD and Gorton have to look like the bad guys? Bull shyt. Yes, he had a stellar career, now it’s time to go, he’s no longer the face of the franchise, actually he’s in the way. |

see this is not only his opinion, this is the opinion of a lot of fans who want the Rangers to make their decisions for sentimental reasons
it's why I keep going back to Hank playing in the bubble, it was the dumbest idea and it actually made things worse
the correct decision is that Lundqvist is not a capable NHL goalie any more, the last year of his contract should be bought out, and when Shesterkin can't play, Georgiev should play.
they are NOW doing the right thing
That was a fact in January. a fact in March. and it should have been in July.
The fact that Lundqvist played those two games in July and played ok just made it harder for some people to say goodbye. |

For Buffalo to trade Eichel, they'd want the equivalent (good luck finding that) of Eichel plus. They don't have to deal him, either for reasons having to do with the cap, their internal budget, his performance or a locker-room problem. Sabres problems are management and team performance problems, so they're not inclined to trade him without receiving a haul in return. |

yep, pretty much
I also dont think people realize just how outstanding Eichel's season was with very very little around him
if Eichel played with Panarin?
OMG

Would love to have him, especially after he put it all together this past season, but who do you sacrifice to get him? Panarin or Zibanejad? If the answer is "neither" (that would be my answer), probably can't get him. Maybe they would take the overall #1 pick, but I'd rather have the less-expensive Lafreniere at this point, although he's not a center. |

Leetch won us a cup and was traded in his birthday. It’s business. Can’t make emotional decisions in business or you’ll lose |

Holy cow the Jets and G-men suck...you all better hope your unproven commodities pan out cause if they don't and the rangers blow still then I truly feel bad for y'all...
P.s. Eichel would far and away be the best player on the rangers..never gonna get him, especially with the clown offers I've seen here.
P.p.s. little upset I didn't get the invite for the Hbuzz draft.
Enjoy the rest of the football season suckers - Pet.m.d.

historically I think this fanbase is probably the worst in the NHL at being able to handle tough decisions
letting Giacomin go and giving the goalie reigns to JD in 1975 was actually the right decision
we just dont have the stomach for it |

I'm in no means advocating trading him, what would you think if they would take Kakko instead? Somehting like Kakko, Kandre or Nils, a couple firsts, maybe 1-2 second level prospects.
I've gone on record in saying I don't see how we could fit Eichel long term. I would trade Zib for Eichel, but I don't think that really makes sense for either team.

I more or less am extremely annoyed due to the dead cap space. Trading Staal was huge and I thought they could just ride out this season and be good to go. Do whatever you have to with Georgiev IDGAF. |

really the only issue with the dead cap space is other team's fans trolling us about it
there is plenty of cap space for the Rangers to function fine this season even with all the dead space |

But riding it out this season would be 8.5M in basically dead cap space. Buying out Hank save the team about 3M this year and then a "dead cap" hit of 1.5M the next.

I'm just saying I don't see the reason for it. Staal being gone solved most of the problem. It was a masterful move. This, not so much. Maybe the market for Georgiev was poop? Couldn't they have waited for the second buyout window? Maybe Hank requested the first one so that he would have a better chance of being signed?

I understand that and I would have been more OK with the buyout had Staal still been here.

I wouldn't mind Kakko (because the Rangers need another quality center), but I wouldn't want to give up Miller or Lunqvist. The D gets pushed around too much in their own end as it is, so I think they need Miller and probably need Trouba to balance out the skill with their muscle. But I don't think Eichel gets traded until he demands it. So far, supposedly, that isn't happening. |

I do, too, but his lack of engagement in any aspect of the game really surprised me. I know he's young, and he's got tons of skill when he's on the bigger ice and has room to move, if he doesn't adapt his game to the NHL, it's going to be a problem. |

I think his problem was, before the season he had basically had played a whole year of hockey without any kind of offseason. I really think that kid was gassed. There's no question he has to make adjustments, but I think we will see improvement virtue of him being a fresher version of himself.

He appeared to be better after the restart, but relative to the rest of the team's horrible performance at that time I'm not sure if he had improved or was the same. |

do you think the value isn't there because he didn't play much? honestly, I think it's probably because there are just soooooooo many goalie available right now.....supply far outweighs demand. goalies have never been that valuable to begin with (in terms of trade value) add to the mix that there are probably close to 10-12 good goalies available, and the return just isn't going to be there. |
