Why would Calgary do that? - LAHawk
Why not both those players have taken flack in Calgary .Although Bennett may have redeemed himself in the playoffs a bit . Saad a top player .Hannifin has struggled a bit in Calgary needs a fresh start .Saad and Maatta are proven playoff players Calgary in a bit of a win now position .They also need a goaltender maybe they could sign Crow with all that space they have . |

Barret will help in that regard too. However neither Barret or Entwhistle are heavyweights as in large say 225pd guys. Entwhistle is adept at coming away with puck from boards, he reportedly is said to have knack or skillfully successful. He was 175 earlier in junior but heavier now. Barret is a 200 pound guy (roughly) who likes to do battle but he is not full time boards guy as he is a skilled passer. He scores too but he needs work on his skating. Theo could offer more insight. Btw R Johnson would be a real warrior if he could find a spot. Just an average skater, though, so maybe he is a RW if he makes the NHL. Each team would love to have a character warrior like Johnson. Both Johnson and Soderlund i would really cheer do progress step up. Not sure how much longer Fortin is around. But he improved last season, so await if he can improve even more - jhawk59
If you're looking for prospects who may grow into middle or bottom 6 roles that include board play and checking, then Entwistle, Soderlund, Johnson, and Quenneville are definitely in the mix.
Although they have yet to play a U.S. pro game, I would venture to say the same with Barratt and Chalupa. Let's see if they can live up to the billing.
There's also Morrison but his consistency needs to improve if he's going to make his mark in the pros.
Slavin is one to watch perhaps but let him develop more in the NCAA first. He's a ways away still. |

Hey Duff! I hear what you are saying and don't necessarily disagree. I'm all for finding any means to add young talent. My biggest concern comes from the Flames blogger here (and true, it is just one opinion):
Noah Hanifin has been a disappointment in Calgary. I don’t think there’s much room for debate about that.
He is no further along offensively than he was a few years ago. His points per game output this past season was the lowest since his rookie campaign.
And it’s not as if his defensive play makes up for it.
More nights than not Hanifin severely blows coverage(s) in the defensive zone and he is much too prone to head scratching mistakes.
There’s a reason he’s worth only +0.2 Goals Above Replacement over his two seasons in Calgary, according to EvolvingHockey.com. He just doesn’t move the needle at either end of the ice.
Yes, he’s 23. Yes, he’s an awesome skater. Yes, he has tools. But he always leaves you wanting more and, now 400+ games (playoffs included) into his NHL career, I doubt that’s going to change.
He sounds like a younger version of Gus. Hopefully Stan doesn't have a stroke and bring him back as well... |

We do? Giving up by far the best player in the trade in Saad, with no one to replace him in the top 6? Does gaining Hanafin to marginaaly bolster the D offset the loss of Saad, and what he does in the top 6?
If you want the cap space, just buy out Matta

I'm sure this is because I've just been watching his highlights (which by definition are all of his good plays), but I'm uncommonly high on Morrison. He just always seems to be in the middle of the ice and in the right place. Strong on his skates and knows where his teammates are. Hopefully I'm right. |

Hanifin has been disappointing to say the least. His change of scenery from Carolina to Calgary didn't jump start him.
I'd much rather play Carlsson than bring in Hanifin. Like, not even a question.
Bennett, though, I'd court trade scenarios for him. Has to be the right price, of course, as he's not going to blow up the offensive stats but plays a really physical game. Loves to lay out opponents and strong as heck. |

There have been recent articles highlighting Morrison's clutch play so you are spot on with that perspective. He may take time to develop in the AHL but patience could pay off.
With Morrison, Bickell would be a fair comparable. |

I would not make this trade, however I would try and acquire Bennett, he would be a perfect 3C on this team and he’s only 24. He won’t put up a lot of points but he’s a good defensive center and seems to have other intangibles as well. Not sure what it would take to get him, but if it’s Strome then Calgary needs to add a pick or prospect. |

Is Bennett a guy that CAN play top six? I know virtually nothing about him other than the fact that he plays heavy. Who has he played with in the past? More 3rd liner type? |

But if you're looking for a prospect who will be that player to just flat out blow up the opponent like Reaves or Bennett, then really you're only looking at Barratt and Johnson yet neither are at the same level as the aforementioned beasts.
All the other ones will be a handful along the boards and in corners while throwing their share of hits but I wouldn't expect them to dish out the type of hits that obliterate and intimidate. |

I did not know that Hanifan has struggled. He was a promising young dman when he left Carolina. Bennett may never live up to his high draft selection. I haven't seen enough of either Flames player to give a strong opinion. Both of them I figure were regarded as skilled with promising future if you look at them a couple years ago. They apparently have stumbled somewhat since then. I always liked Backlund on the Flames |

Calgary has only 3 signed D plus a RFA. Throw Maattz into the deal. Strome and Maatta for Bennett, and their 2nd pick or a good prospect. |

Hawks need to have at least 1 heavy forecheck cruncher. Good point. If I knew I was going against a team without a big guy that could squash me, then it would be a lot less stress on my mind and I would have more confidence with the puck. Seems obvious of course, but the Hawks haven't had a heavyweight forechecker recently. Interesting as well along this line of thought is how Maroon has been signed by teams ready to win Cups - just69sayin

Why I would like to see if Stan could get Virtanen from the Canucks for cheap. He has power forward potential, or Josh Anderson from Columbus, but i think he would cost more in assets back. - LAHawk
Jake doesnt want to be paid cheap and just hasn't been all that good. Potential is the big word there Brendan Perlini.
He's not all solid enough to be a physical force because he is erratic positionally.

Interesting. What does Boston want back?
Saad for Debrusk and a conditional 2021 1st if the Bruins extend him? |

to transfer all the gas and powert stations to recharging stations cause you can't buy a internal combustion engine.
And to pay for reparations even though our state was never a slave state. But lets ignore the encampment of the asian-americans during WW11. - LAHawk
I honestly don't understand all this complaining about paying taxes where i myself have chosen to live.
I have great public utilities, great public schools, streets park districts are very well maintained, i think they even clean the forest floors, good balance of homes, business, restaurants and entertainment and am only 20-30 minutes from the city.
You couldn't pay me money to live in Vegas. Sedona, Whiting, Flaggstaff is another story but those places aren't cheap either. And the driving you'll have to do to get anything. |

Unfortunately, right now that is Shaw. Caggiula also does that work, but he's not for sure coming back. Smith would if he could catch anyone. The Hawks could roll out John Quenneville for that, but I would prefer someone a bit more aware of how to play hockey. Hopefully Entwistle progresses quickly. From what I've seen and read about him, he could be a really good one. - Chunk
Pitlick from Philly 4th line player physical slightly above average takes the body wins board battles 50/50 only downside is sometimes loses defensive coverage. 1 year 900k to 1 million not sexy but a role player with size and heaviness. |
