To get out of paying a 30 year old 8.25 million for 7 years. Isn't this the same team that isn't paying their players on time? - pker2theend
After next season the Coyotes will be paying OEL $10.5MM per year in cash but only getting a cap hit of $8.25MM. He'll be 30 and have a NMC. This may be the only chance they have to move him and, as a cash-strapped team, that contract could be seen as a ticking time bomb by management.
OEL's contract is the inverse of Ericksson's. Higher actual salary than cap hit in the later years and more palatable to buy out towards the end.

I can see both sides of the debate but I just read an interesting post on Twitter. The guy said in 7 years this years core will not be the core then . It gives the team a really good chance at taking advantage of this cores best chance.
I think if you can have Edler Hughes and OEL as your left side than that is a very good start.
OEL would be a welcome addition to the Canucks.
I doubt Loui would be involved, but Beagle and some salary retention would be a must.
Hopefully Lawson Crouse is involved as well.
I doubt there are only 2 teams on OEL's list. It's going to take a player like Boeser, a D prospect like OJ and a 1st. I don't doubt this. - boonerbuck
A package like that is terrrrriiiibbblllle. Would never do that for an aging 29 year old on a huge contract.
Would trade something like that for MacAvoy though.

Yes, that would be terrible for the Canucks. My point exactly.
People think they'll trade him for scraps. Players the Canucks would love to cap dump. Makes no sense. LE? 2 more years with a 6 mil cap hit? They will want to improve their team.

Arizona has been struggling financially since they moved from Winnpeg, maybe they are just trying to stay afloat during these tough economic times.
I also don't believe a big cap dump like Loui will be involved.
At a minimum, Benning has to explore the possibility of obtaining OEL who would immediately be the teams best defenseman.

If they are willing to take scraps and a 1st then of course you go for it. It's not very realistic though. They will want saving and improvements at the same time if they trade a high end asset like OEL. Even if it's draft picks and a younger player.

From the reporting its the player wanting out and saying make it happen to Boston or Canucks. Then the report further goes along to say they would have to retain or take contracts back.
This is why they are throwing LE's name out thinking cash strapped AZ will go for it. I am of the opinion they'll take a package but Canucks won't offer up one of their core like BB.
