OEL>>>>>>Cernak and probably will for at least the next 5 years. I know people look at his aav and say no, but if we dump LE we can make the cap work that will allow us to also sign Hughes and EP next summer. - Retinalz
if the canucks best window to win is 4-5 years and they think they can do that within the cap then go for it. it improves the defense and probably makes life easier for whoever is in net |

This is the worst case scenerio in 5 years from now if we trade for OEL:
Cap Hit Calculations
SSAVINGS CAP HIT
2025-26 $3,500,000 $4,750,000
2026-27 $3,500,000 $4,750,000
2027-28 -$1,750,000 $1,750,000
2028-29 -$1,750,000 $1,750,000
TOTAL $7,000,000 $3,500,000 $13,000,000
This is if his play slips, and if there is still flat cap. Until then he is our best Dman and if not a very close second behind Hughes. |

If OEL costs 2021 1st, OJ, Stetcher(we likely toss in LE) then I am all for it. |

Big fat no to OEL from me.
Unless they retain 50% and take back LE.
People think we’re in cap hell now? Just (frank)ing stupid |

Well it would fix our D. It would basically solidify a 4 year window for us to go for it. Clearly Loui has to go back. Loui, plus Juolevi, plus Stecher and a first. Maybe that’s enough. I’d want a bit of salary retained as well but may be wishful thinking |

AZ moving OEL is looking to cut cap too not just $$ so I don't think they will take LE. Sens are the only ones who would take him and doubt he would waive for them even if they were willing. Which is why MTA is the only way to get rid of him. |

OEL will only eat up 2.25m of our current 14.26m cap space, leaving us with 12m. We no longer need to sign Tanev or another D and suddenly have space for Toffoli, a back up for Demko and then still be able to fill the rest of our roster. If he is not LTIRetired this season, Ferland will be by next, so there is an extra 3.5m for us as well.
OEL will not put us in Cap hell. |

I'm beginning to think MTA stands for Metro transit authority.
In other words, ride the bus. |

And when they have to give raises to Petey, and QH? Then BB and Horvat will be up, and then Podkolzin and Hog shortly after that. OEL’s 8.5 will be held through all those contracts.
If Arizona eats 3 mil of it, bringing it down to 5.5, then great. |

Cap Cut :

They want more then that trying to re-haul the roster and losing draft picks for years they need lots of cap space for all the free agents cut lose by cap strapped teams. |

Cap won't stay flat forever, We will be fine with Petey and Hughes, Boeser is two years away and we don't know what will happen with Cap. If it stays flat, free buy-outs may be possible.
It is stupid not to trade for a true #1 dman simply because you don't know what the cap will be like in 2-4 seasons. as an example: Podk comes in this season on a 2 year contract expiring when Boeser does. Podk out plays Boeser and can be bridged. We give Boesers money to Podk and trade Boeser for assets because he is still an RFA. Boeser problem is solved. We then run with Podk and Toffoli as our 1RW and 2RW. |

It is a risky contract I think they have seen what has been offered . They certainly can keep the contract if they are not happy with the offers.
