Pretty sure the original parameters of the deal was Hasek for Federov. Hasek publicly stated he would retire if the team trading for him moved players that would hinder them winning a cup. Hence the deal that eventually went down.

The difference in understanding 80’s from 90’s is knowing your numbers, which is then used for the understanding of math and how to apply it.

He's super old

His play at some point very soon will fall off

He's a bridge to Cozens, not any long term solution

It doesn't show Eichel any type of long term commitment to winning. It says, "Here we did something"

They need to make a really big move, or 2-3 pretty sunstantial ones

Well your not getting Nico for Sam
- dmarsden2988

Good, I wouldn't want to. Sam is a first line player for sure. Nico might be.

But those first two arguments are 100% moot. He's only here for one year.

He's also, by every account, a true professional, which will help the youngins, and will help Jack immensely in the dressing room.

There's every indication that Adams isn't close to being done, from what everyone around the league hears and reports.

I don’t think he’s done.

I’m saying I don’t trust this organization to do enough.

Nothing is free.

Thousands if not more people have spent time talking about Bobby Mac-N-Cheese's tweets about Eichel that literally say nothing that wasn't known in March. He's wasted the most precious commodity we all have.. Time. I'm also ok with it, because I'm a degenerate. Twitter is McDonald's.

He’s at an age where it would surprise 0 people if he completely falls off.

There’s a substantial chance we still don’t have a 2C.

There needs to not be those questions if they don’t want to risk Eichel formally asking out

Yeah his 36 points and clear regression (24 ES points) certainly show he's superior in every way. I like him, and IF he hits his ceiling yeah. Until then, naw I'm good with Sam, as he's the better player today and still getting better.

Staal is the long term solution to Cozens, the guys still a 20+ scorer, when is the last time the Sabres had a 20+ goal scorer for 2C. You are right his play will fall off but he probably has 1 if not 2 decent years left and hopefully Cozens has progressed like Dach did.

I agree there has to still be a big acquisition, especially at RW whether it's Laine or one of the UFA's or through another trade. The D has to be changed slightly by adding a LHD and getting a defensive RHD to play with Dahlin.

I have 0 doubt he can be a very capable 2C.

He had 5 points in 4 playoff games 2 months ago. I see no reason to believe he's going to turn into a pile of goo just because he turns 36 this month

If we get the Staal of the past few years he’s absolutely good enough to be 2C.

But anytime you get a player in their late 30’s is an absolute gamble.

If I had to guess, I’d say he’s going to be fine, but nothing is certain

The trade itself is solid value, but they need to leave no doubt anymore

I hope so. Like I said if I were to bet, I'd bet he's fine for the year.

But denying it's a huge gamble to rely on a 36 year old is silly.

He's played 1240 career games, these things end, and for a lot of guys quickly

I understand your doubt with this organization but I'm going to try and think positive with Adams...maybe just maybe they get it right and get lucky like they did with McBeane.
They paid the 7.5M bonus so they have to have a plan to appease Jack or they could have just traded him before July 1st ala ROR. Obviously the next 2 weeks will pretty much define what the plans are.

I view Staal much like a Joe Sakic. Imo he has 3 solid years left barring injury(which he has avoided his career). I think you’ll see him resigned mid season to a one year extension. Just a hunch.

Ranger fan

While Jack is a damn good player, Buchnevich and ADA combined outscored Jack. Strome and Buch outscored Jack

Either combination of Strome/Buchnevich/ADA will out produce Jack (significantly) next season while making a few dollars more.

Please don't take that to mean that I think they are alone worth more than Jack. Not the point.

Teams with balance win. Teams that are top heavy get knocked over.

This is an exercise that gets proven, time and again, that the fans on HF Boards have no clue as to value.

Do you seriously believe that you are going to get 1OA and three players that will be producing 40-50 Goals and 100+ Assists for the next 5-10 years?

don't be silly

Here's a good laugh for you all

That would be fine with me, but only if Cozens looks really legit first. That way Staal can slide down to 3C and they can play him less per night
