I like the trade of Maatta. The Hawks will be hard pressed to be a legit Cup contender until the young d-men mature and show which ones are keepers. Removing Maatta from the mix facilitates that. Carlsson and Kalynuk now have a better shot at playing regularly in the top-6.

Plus the additional cap space is a very good thing.

Not complaining about this trade, but the end result of the Maatta era was Kahun and 750k in cap space for this Morrison guy.

Meh, the “Maatta Era” bought some time for the prospects... and we’ll have the memories of the playoff bubble “magic” of Maatta and KK slinging goals from the blue line.

I am going by the Cap Friendly numbers. I assumed that the number left out those they didn't have to qualify.

Have the summited there qualifying offers yet any info on that?

The D pairs I laid out were just as placeholders. I also have a preference for not skating Boqvist with Keith.

Boqvist needs a defensely wired partner while Keith is a rover who loves to activate offensively. Keith needs a defense-first partner as well.

I am probably not completely understanding your question. Current RFA's and UFA's listed are neither roster spots nor players under contract, and there is one prospect who doesn't count towards the 50 contract limit.

Really? You of all people are gonna call someone else out for complaining? Dude...ALL YOU DO is complain about other posters, call them names, whine about their opinions while attacking them, etc. All while hiding behind your keyboard. Nice.

It’s just funny cuz I still stop by here from time to time and literally every time I do I see you female doging about someone’s post and bashing the poster. You’re pathetic.

Called it. No problem to trade Maatta. I agree that Morrison is unlikely to be a roster player, this was a salary dump and to make room on D. Might mean they will retain KK on the back end but I hope they can keep him as 7th man at msot.

DeHahn will not last long until he has an injury

Special K takes his spot

Looks like AHL season starts late and with fewer games

If NHL teams allowed to carry a couple extra players, the only real development for Kalynuk and Beaudin is to rotate in. Mitchell could replace DeHahn even if he is a tad green, as long as he shows in mprovement and is not too bad. It is not like a Gilbert situation with blown coverage and out of position too often.

I bet the key is 1). Carlsson and Murphy to remain healthy (the only dmen who will check and you cannot have an entire defense bereft of that)and 2). the dman prospects learn by playing and not sat if they make a mistake. At least until the AHL starts up, you might see some kids get a cup of coffee. Helps with confidence if they aren't scared to make mistakes.

I have to add too: Boqvist needs more strength or he will struggle

I would like get Boqvist away from Keith as a partner. I think he defers too much to Keith which limits his offensive potential. Put Murphy on the 1st pair and Boqvist with deHaan on the 2nd pair.
- boilermaker100

Agreed Boqvist is not a great first pairing with Keith.

Correct we don't beat Edmonton assuming that was the goal without Maatta.

Did the blackhawks summit their qualifying offers to their rfa's?

True. They weren't playing him with Keith to win games right now. All about just letting him learn from Keith while Keith is still here.

I haven't seen anything indicating that yet. But they do need to clear more cap space so they have room to operate. I just saw that the deadline for qualifying offers is on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Chicago time.

Probably means they are working on contracts for Kubalik and Strome. The rest? Meh. All replaceable in house.

iI get the feeling they aren't buying out that bum. JC likes him for some reason. I hope his back isn't healthy and he can spend the season on LTIR stealing money.
