Not a fan of trading Saad but if they did with 50%, would that get them Murray and the rights to Simon for example?

Was reading in the Herald this morning about what the Hawks might do in goal and at the draft according to the beat writer John Dietz. At the draft he had the Hawks potentially taking Dylan Holloway and cited a familiar source and website.

"(Has) soft hands and excellent vision," writes Bill Placzek of draftsite.com. "Possesses a high level hockey IQ, strong balance, lateral quickness and turning ability. Will need to get a quicker first step, and refine his play in his own end. Very creative pivot who plays to control the mid-ice."

I really want the Hawks to stay away from Murray. If they don't resign Crow, and they don't go with the youngsters they already have, I would like to see them get MAF (Vegas would pay us to take him), or sign a cheap veteran like Anderson. I think Murray misses too many games each season, and we're at least 2 years away from really competing for the Cup. We shouldn't spend a lot of money on a goalie when we have so many holes to fill, and no cap space.

Read where Vegas may do a three way trade in order to move Fleury. I guess it would go something like this. Vegas retains 1M and and sends MAF and an asset to Team X which has cap space. Team X retains 1/2 of the remaining 6M salary and trades him to Team Y that wants him. Team X gets another asset from Team Y. Vegas gets something minor back from Team X or Team Y. Team X for holding on to 3M in dead salary for two seasons gets some picks and/or prospects. Team Y gets the goalie they want for 3M. Vegas gets 6M in cap space. The only complication is that MAF has a 10 team NTC.

I could see Yzerman doing this with Detroit being the middle man.

This is how Lehner went from the Hawks to Vegas. Hawks retained 1/2 of his salary and sent him to Toronto for a brief moment who retained 1/2 of Lehner's remaining salary, then was moved to Vegas. Knights were able to get him for 1.5M

I have a hard time believing they can do better than Crawford without giving up assets that will weaken the rest of the team.

Agreed, stay away, I'd love it if the Hawks clear Maatta or deHaan, so if someone offer sheets say a Bolts player like Sergachev, the Hawks can take on some salary and pluck Cirelli from them, he'd look great on the 3rd line

Stan knows that Crawford is the best option. I'm sure he doesn't want to trade away assets to obtain a decent goalie, or sign one through free agency at comparable cost that he has offered Cro. He also wants to field a competitive team and probably figures he can't go with 2 of Subban, Delia, Lankinen as goalies.

And Crawford knows that Stan knows he is the best option, too. That's why he has hasn't signed yet and is holding out for another 500K to 1.5M, or longer term, or a NMC, or all three.

I got the impression that Stan is waiting for the Crawford situation to get settled before he makes other moves. But if this drags on any longer he is going to miss out on a lot of action this upcoming week. Teams will be making moves at the draft and the days leading up to free agency to clear cap space.

Here's a couple of more things happening this week besides the entry draft on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Clubs have until 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday Oct. 7 to submit qualifying offers to their respective RFAs. I assume the Hawks will qualify 4K and Subban at the minimum required to retain their rights.

Free agency opens Friday Oct. 9 at 12 noon ET. RFA's can sign their qualifying offers or offer sheets at that time. It would be interesting if someone offer sheets Sergachev, Cirelli, duBois or Barzal.

So I guess if a team offer sheets someone after this week's draft, the compensation is 2021 draft picks. To me Ottawa doesn't seem like the type of franchise that would do that. Yes they have to meet the salary floor, but can do that by taking on a bunch of contracts with little actual cash outlay.

I would keep a eye on Montreal. Bergevin has the cap space and picks, has attempted it before, and wants top 6 forwards. Colorado has the picks and tons of cap space.

Is this a news anchor from Omaha - or some other Craig Nigrelli?

Whichever - where did his “new information” come from?

Another example of great social media information, presented without any attribution.

He posts fairly regularly on another hockey blog and has proven over the years to have pretty reliable information. Just a couple weeks ago he posted the Hawks $3.5M offer to Crawford before Scott Powers tweeted it or anyone else reported it that I could tell. I don't know if that's his real name or a pseudonym or how he is connected with inside sources - so I wouldn't bet the rent money on him being legit but I think he is.

I suppose it kinda doesn't matter if the rumor that Crawford won't re-sign with the Hawks is true or not because it's going to play out over the next few days either way. I can't envision the situation not being resolved before the draft because the uncertainty would tie Stan's hands to make other moves before and during the draft.

Meh send de Haan for Fleury. Would be essentially 2 5 added to the cap. Thinking Stan goes for the b level goalies like Greiss

If they could get Fleury as a cap casualty, would want McNabb as well.

To dare to dream
