There's going to be other more affordable players available with a multi year flat cap on the horizon. It's just the beginning of this new market. - boonerbuck

No, I've had a problem with my hip for the last few weeks and I've limited out on halibut for the year and my buddy keeps calling me to go hali fishing. |

Arizona cap hell looks like a teardown is coming. Revenue strapped makes a real probability. - Nighthawk
Yeah and the 10.5 mil years of OEL's contract starts after next season. |

OEL is the 5th highest paid dman in the NHL. I doubt he makes the best top 10 and is heading for the backside of his career... - boonerbuck
Won't be long till some surpass him.
Also he is a top 30 dman, don't forget that some contracts are lower simply because of when they were signed. And others are within a couple hundred K of his. |

This is why Carol said two birds and the reports are looking that way. You'd think OEL playing with QH and the young gun Canucks could up his value.

Thats too bad.
Local fishing just turned on for trout. I'll give it a try but I have a broken index finger on one hand and my wrist problems have flared up. Loading my Spratley 10 footer in and out of my truck will be a problem.
Amazing weather up here right now.

Reports are looking like they always do... out of control immediately and sounding more sensible in the following days.

A world of hurt...

Cannot see OEL coming here & us able to fit him in under the cap with Arizona unable to take back our dumps. - Nighthawk
Here's how I see it...
If the yotes were take take one of the Canucks overpaid dead weight players like Sutter or LE, they would be looking for quality elsewhere in the deal. This means 1st round pick, decent prospect or entry level contract with potential. They would also want salary retained on that dead weight.

Sounds about right. My problem is we can ride out 1 or 2 years of Sutter & LE versus more cap problems. JB has to unload much more cap elsewhere to even consider it. Does he have deals in place waiting for such a move? Tanev would walk obviously. |

Listening to Vancouver radio seems like it’s..
Juolevi
Prospect?
2nd rounder
Eriksson
The 2nd prospect wanted by Arizona appears to be the hold up. Also Arizona wanted Sutter but are willing to take Eriksson but with the better prospect that Vancouver doesn’t want to part with. Not sure how much of this is fact vs speculation.
Hope the Canucks walk away, it’s going to cripple them in a few years. |

Would rather trade a 1st than give up a better prospect like Hog, Podk, etc.
Still would rather not trade for OEL at all. |

If the prospect is someone like Woo I'd be all over that in a heartbeat. Getting rid of LE is a win in itself.
If it's Hoglander, Podz, or Rathbone then I would walk away. |

Canucks need an abundance of entry level contracts over the next few years post Petey and Hughes re-ups. No matter how we juggle it, Canucks would be trading that for a 8.25mil cap hit over the next 7 years instead.
Team definitely needs to improve D and the bottom 6.... but there has to be a more affordable way somehow.

I'd be fine with Rathbone. With Hughes and OEL we really wouldn't need Rathbone. |

I get that the whole context of the above move is to free up cap space to re-sign current players and all but, let me get this straight?
OEL to Van
for
Boeser, Virtanen, Juolevi, 18th Overall, 20th Overall, Sutter and Erickson. - Whiskey-Tango
As said, for giggles. Van cannot give away Erickson and Sutter contracts without some sweetener. Beagle, Rousell, Ferland are other assets that are tying up cap space with no trade value.
Something has to give in Van regardless of if OEL is coming to town. Moving one of the above contracts would help solidify other positions but, to move them there has to be some kind of sweetener.
Virtanen isn’t sweet enough, Joelevi isn’t sweet enough, do you really want to trade Demko? Maybe? But probably not.
So down the rabbit hole one goes laughing all the way. |

I'd prefer to keep him personally. You may be forced to not be able to re-sign Edler after this coming year and Rathbone would be a nice cheap replacement. |

I'd rather not give up Rathbone AND Juolevi. Basically our two top LHD prospects.
Maybe they're asking for DiPietro? |

Exactly. I would rather give up a good package for Carlo or Cernak. Guys that are younger and cheaper (and RHD). Yes, their ceiling isn't as high, but they don't have to match what Hughes can do.
Like you said – and especially with a flat cap – the Canucks need those ELCs coming in over the next few years. |

I’d be down for Cernak as well but Tampa should try to find a way to keep him. They finally have the right mix of speed/skill/physicality and he’s a big part of the physicality for them |
