Jack Nicholson getting this award for Chinatown is great.

Isn't any film by Polanski "problematic" these days and, by proxy, any retroactive praise for an award garnered from said film also problematic? |

Sandin probably sits but I didnt feel like touching a nerve for 90% of posters on here - Santo_44
Ok, then I don’t bring in Gudas to sit either Sandin or Lehtonen. |

I would be content loaning Sandin to a Swedish team if that was an option. He doesn't HAVE to be in the NHL right now, he's still basically a teenager. Is allowing him to play bigger minutes in a different pro league a bad option for him?
Especially when the alternative is to play micro minutes for a team that's historically defensively inept. That's how you Luke Schenn a kid. Why do it if there's no need?
Just thinking with my mouth. 🤷♂️ |

I'd like to know of a season where the Leafs had 6 fully healthy D the entire season |

This
Sandin playing sheltered mins is no better than him playing top mins on the Marlies or in Sweden.
Sadly he is not a lock to be in the top 6. |

If Gudas is acquired, maybe Holl gets moved if Lehtonen works out? |

Possibly.
I'd like the Leafs to go into this year with options.
I dont want Sandin locked into that 5th/6th spot by default. Too many question marks.
You can always make trades if you have 7 or 8 NHL D...Plus the expansion draft is next year and they'd lose a D anyways. |

Would Ottawa trade us #5 for Nylander?
Do we need to add?
Then we draft Drysdale 👍 - mr.sir

Agreed. Lehtonen and Sandin are both wildcards at this point -- can either (or both) of them perform to an acceptable level? I suspect it will take quite a few games to figure that out.
I think you rotate Sandin/Lehtonen/Holl in the 6 hole if you bring a guy like Gudas (this is, of course, presuming another Top 4 defender is acquired). Or, perhaps you run with 7 d-men for the first 10-20 games and let it all sort itself out. |

There is a chance they are both legit top 4 D this season but there is also a chance they both cant handle more than sheltered mins.
Plus the chance of an injury is always high. Leafs dont have a healthy top6 the entire year unless they get extremely lucky. |

I could see Dubas inquiring about Grabner. Plays with speed and could replace kapanens minutes on the pk.
Just had zero hands when he was here, but could probably get him on the cheap. |

Obviously part of this depends on how much is spent for somebody who plays with Rielly. There seems to be a lot of spending the same $s two or three times. We might be at a point where we have to rely on internal development to offset flat cap. I want to be very careful about bringing in extra D.
I think it easy to underestimate the improvements that will come with Barrie and Cici going and having someone solid with Rielly. |

What does Vegas give to Minnesota to take two really bad contracts. Worse than two times Marleau deal - Vegas has the 29th pick but that's $13.5 Million in salary for two players that are not good enough to be on Vegas. I would think Vegas would have to include the 29th, Glass plus plus. - winsix
MAF at say 5 x 2 probably isn't a 'bad' contract. Vegas eats 2 Milly and he's a decent value.
Stastny ..not sure? He's way better than Marleau but ya overpriced. |

Honestly, Gudas is a third pairing guy, so is Holl, would rather pick up a top pair guy (the impossible dream) add Demelo and forget about Gudas. What I do like about Gudas is that he is a dirty filthy animal and would bust a few asses if they dared park themselves in front of the net. (Leafs have none of that at the moment)

I like that area of his game as well. If we can deploy two pairs with a player who makes the opposition put extra thought into crossing our blueline... That's huge. Teams play the leafs with zero second guessing on the rush as is. |

Stantny can be bought out for $2.83 Million hit this year and $1.83 Million hit next year. Buying out Fleury would be $2.583 M, $3.083M, $2.083 M and $2.083 M
Vegas could create about $8M in cap space by simply buying them both out with they probably won't do. Eating $2 or even $3 M on MAF and buying out Stastny might be enough to get AP under the cap if they move out Marchessault or a similar salary.

I would Bouchard will be very good, doubt Edmonton would trade Bouchard, he's their best defensive prospect by a mile. |

All prospects could technically be labelled as a wildcard.
Sandin has proved himself to be a top prospect on this team. We need smart, fast puck moving defense. He needs ice time to round out his game, his body and his mind. Rotating him might occur but we have to give the kid a chance to prove he's worthy of a spot, not place doubt in his mind. Kid needs to be put into a position to succeed! He could turn out to be a fantastic player. |

No, there abslotulely is not. There is NO chance of them being legit top four. Dude....you just don't do hockey very well. You have no idea of what a legit top four D man is. Probably because you've been watching the Leafs D for too long. |
