Cates seems like a Raffl type, in a good way. Good, cheap bottom 6 type. Maybe not the highest of ceilings, but a good bet to be an NHL player.

That’s kind of what I was seeing in him. Can do many things good. Can win draws, can play pp, center or wing, can chip in some offense and his work ethics have been noticed by his coaches. Looked good at the camp.

Said he was doing one more year of college. What ever that looks like this year

yes Bill he was a below average backup. His save % overall was below 90; that is a below average backup. That is not good. So you cherry picking some stats doesnt change that. That being said yo get what you pay for and to upgrade it would have cost more

His save percentage was below average. I don’t think that can be argued. But again it is just one stat that we use judge performance. His record was above average.

He did have some flops but his ability to help pick up some road wins against some tough teams fit well with Hart who struggled early with playing on the road.

Not saying Moose is a great goalie but he was a great fit for this team. 1.5 fits good for the Flyers at what they should get from him.

He is what he is at this point. Yes he is a great fit and won't rock the boat. That has value and that is probably the main reason he was brought back; along with his price tag. So I agree with what your saying. Just find it funny it is framed he took a discount as he very well could be out of the league if he wasn't on the flyers. He was smart to take that deal actually.

So due to one or two bad games that lowered his save percentage he is a bad backup? Sample size man.

I agree. With the uncertainty of the market and currently being heavy with goalie talent would make it a risk not to sign with the Flyers.

I think a win win deal. He gets another year of hockey and the Flyers know what they got in their back up.

Peter Dikk it was more than 1 or 2 bad games. My bad he was great on the road. He is a below average backup, you disagree excellent. Flyers fans are the best. So glad he took a hometown discount to stay and help the flyers out.

Outside of Jake being “Must Dump Salary” for this off-season, I agree!
- Wingdestroyer

Players listed for salary dump are players who are options, not all must go.

Pretty sure if we dump that amount of salary we aren’t starting the season without overpaying for for somebody on the UFA market.

Lol ok. 16-7-4. For a back up that was heavily used on the road. You’re right. He was absolutely terrible.

He mainly started on the road. Simple question: Did he give his team a shot at winning the decided majority of those games? The answer is yes.

I’ve never been a fan of bringing Elliott back the past two off seasons due to his age and past injury history BUT he’s coming off his best season as a Flyer, plain and simple. Not only this but if Hart gets hurt or experiences a rough patch, Elliott can step in and start against any team in a pinch.

I like guys who can grind and play a physical game. I actually like the Islanders bottom six a lot.
