I would like to thank you for another year and another successful mock draft. I realize it involves a great deal of your time, but I certainly appreciate it and believe it is very entertaining and enlightening to all!

As for Haula, I would rather dance with the devil I know. I don't think Haula is enough of an upgrade over Strome to warrant his signing. Hopefully the Rangers have another Staal type surprise up their sleeve and can get a greater upgrade at center.

Yeah, you might not have some super stud 1C with your top winger but chemistry is important and if your 11m+/yr FA winger likes Strome, then he might be worth resigning or that 4.5/5m you save in Strome may end up costing you 11m if Panarin doesn't mesh well with whoever else you put with him.

usually those very high picks though like Laf and Kakko will have bonuses that if they make them all they'll hit 3.75 mil

now specifically they may have different things

but I think we are rooting for both of them to hit all those triggers since that will mean both had great years

For the record, I'd only go after a guy like Haula if the Rangers decide to trade Strome for a couple of 2nds or whatever and need a solid stop gap (read: 1 year deal).

I can look it up but I'll just ask here: how does it work with overages? Can they move it to next year's cap? Can they move part of it to next year, say $1 million out of the $6 they'd owe? I can't remember it ever happening, so I have no reference point.

I will confirm, but believe you can move the overage to the following year's cap figure. Though have to check if you can move the entire amount and if any penalties for overages.

Thanks Jan. There's only an issue if you have to move it All or None, which may be the case if the team is so worried about it. I mean, 7.5% is $6 million, so it shouldn't be a problem unless I'm missing something here.
