Hmm Josh Anderson traded for Max Domi. How does this help each team? I'm not seeing any other compensation.

How does that work...Take on 3.5 M and give us a 2nd round pick? What are they giving up?

Gotta get McNabb back. Ya know, to help them clear cap.
- ikeane

No need to send a 2nd back, Fleury@50% retained and Alex Tuch for De Haan and Nylander.

@jayzawaski670

A source tells me this trade is much more complicated that first reported. From what I understand, a third team would be involved and VGK would GET not GIVE a 2nd. Unsure if Hawks are interested or involved.

Even weirder, Max Domi and a 3rd this year for Anderson. Both are restricted FA's.

Zawaski's tweet responding to another tweet stating that Vegas is willing to trade Fleury and retain 50% salary for a 2nd round pick. Fleury has an AAV of $7M for 2 more years.

Coincidentally, $3.5M is what Crawford was offered.

@JayZawaski670

Hawks fans, do you want Marc-Andre Fleury for $3.5 million and a 2nd round pick? I wonder what it would take. Not much if Vegas is desperate to move him.

It is not Vegas keeping 50% and offering a 2nd for a team to take Fleury. Using pure example teams, the way I read this is Vegas trades Fleury to the Kings (just an example) with a 2nd round pick. LA trades Fleury to Edmonton at 50% retained. Edmonton gets a goalie, LA gets a 2nd to put 3.5 on their cap for the next 2 years, Vegas loses 7M off their cap
- ikeane

In your example what does Edmonton give up? What does Vegas get (other than cap space). Also Vegas does not have a 2nd round pick this year. Finally LA would be basically paying $7 mil (over two years) for a 2nd round pick.

Vegas is going to have to give up a whole lot more than a 2nd round pick to get rid of $14 mil in cap space (over two years).

What about this for a trade idea:

Chicago gets:
Marc-André Fleury
Vegas 1st Round Pick #29

Vegas gets:
Zach Smith

Hawks get a goalie for what they will probably pay for one on the free agent market (minus the cost of Smith) and the get a 1st rounder to get Vegas out of cap hell.

Vegas can buy out Smith at $1,083,333 per for two seasons, save them almost 6 M against the cap.

Next year might suck for the Hawks, but a second 1st this year, might make that worth it. Add a draft pick here and there to make things work.

No, MAF has 2 years left on his contract

They have 11M now.
The difference in Smith the Fleury would be would be 3.75M so that would be 7.25 remaining. 3M for Kubalik, 2.5 or Strome. That leaves 1.75 for the last two roster spots with those on ELC contacts.

I also would like to see other trades as well, like Murphy or De Haan for a young forward and have Carlsson, Mitchell, etc. given a shot to take over a dman spot.

Like I said, next year would suck though.

- spudrock512

No way. Basically you are buying a late 1st round pick for $10.75mil in cap space (over two years). Not even close.

Did not say that it made sense and probably why Vgk have not found takers. If this scenario played out I see it being like the Brendan Smith trade. In this case Vegas clears cap like the Rangers and gives up a 2nd (now disputed). 3rd party team looking to get to the cap floor gets 3.5 miles and a 2nd (again, does not seem to be the offer now), 3rd team gets the cap dump goalie to see if he can play net for 2 years at 3.5 mil

And after the way vegas got over on teams during their entry draft I doubt anyone will do them a favor like that.

I bet PRIOR to the trade, both teams got to negotiate extensions ...just like the hawks attempted with Murray...

If the Hawks stay at 17, looking at Zary, Holloway, Guhle, or Lapierre. I am leary of the Russian. If Lundell drops, he is the defacto choice to me. Not saying he will

Any GM who thinks that Fleury would be the answer to their needs SHOULD consider doing that favor.

This “they’re desparate, let’s wait them out” attitude mostly serves to let other teams compete for the deal and your team to lose out.

If it’s a good deal, and you want the guy, do the deal.

There are lots of folks that think Hendrix Lapierre can be a star.

I can live with any of those, but I have a feeling they have a guy on the radar we didn't mention....

Count me as one of those who believes Lapierre will be top of the 2nd tier picks.
