With Columbus set to buyout Wennberg, they've also received inquiries on Brandon Dubinsky, who is not expected to play next season. His $5.85M cap hit is attractive for teams looking to stretch their dollar via LTIR. He's also owed the same amount in actual salary.

No #Isles players were on waivers at noon today, meaning there are no buyouts coming for the team in this buyout window. Free agency starts in 24 hours and #Isles still have not moved out any salary.

Odd in what way? It's expected that a lot of free agents may be taking one or two year deals to bridge them to seasons when they expect the cap (and salaries) to start rising again.

I'm not sure I would want the Isles to give Hall a big deal in two years.

Going to be interesting to see what Lou does and if someone like Leddy gets moved?

I have doubts that anyone will take Leddy. He makes more than his cap hit on the last two years of his deal. Actual salary is $6.5M and $7M, respectively. Maybe there's a team with space that wants him, but the general consensus this offseason seems to be that GM's aren't going to be picking up players that are owed a lot in real dollars.

The Dubinsky thing is interesting to me. The Islanders could trade for him and put him on LTIR. If they do that they could spend to the cap and also spend up to $5.85M over the upper limit. If they LTIR Ladd also they could spend up to $21.35M (Ladd+Dubi cap hit combined) over the cap. I'm just not entire sure they'll be able to land Dubinsky. Vegas and Tampa are also trying to shed salary and probably want him, and if I were Kekalainen I wouldn't be too keen on helping a division rival out with freeing up (more or less) cap space. Maybe my math is wrong, I can't keep track anymore...who knows.

Dubinsky is also due the same real-dollar salary that his cap hit is, so Malkin/Ledecky also have to sign off on paying someone almost $6M to not play in a season where they'll have little-to-no revenue coming in.

Hmmm... also happens to be when the Islanders will have about a Billion dollars of cap room with Boychuk, Leddy, Leo, Clutterbuck, and Hickey coming off their books. Odd that he seemed to say 2 years.. no?

I don’t think the leagues free agents are signing 2 year deals because the Islanders will have more money then. It totally based on the lack of revenue and the cap freeze due to Covid19 and the hope the revenue and Cap will go up in a couple of years.

I mean I would love to think everyone wants to join the Islanders in two years but that’s just not what’s driving the Leagues FA to look at 1 and 2 year deals.

Lou loves a show me contract so if they gave Hall a big deal in 2 year that would mean he played extremely well for those 2 years.
