In a draft like this, thats not a pick Id make. That team has far too many needs to jump on a goalie with the 4th pick.

It really depends on how good they think he can be. It's only recently where teams shied away from drafting a goalie high. If I knew he was a franchise goalie, I would draft him for sure, someone who has a Flower or Price kind of a career arc will have a much bigger impact than just drafting a solid piece at that pick.

where this goalie lands has become the biggest wildcard of this draft

what's happened is pretty unprecedented and will likely never happen again, some of the 18 year olds that were supposed to be drafted in June, like Askarov, have begun playing games this season and he's looked absolutely ridiculous in his KHL games

he likely wouldn't have sniffed the top 10 back in June, everything has changed now

So what's the over/under on NYR dealing their 22nd pick?

If they do, will it be to move up/down/or part of big deal for a center?

Kyreos and others mention that Vagas might be offeri g Nate Schmidt in trade to shed salary. LD making $5+ against the cap. Vegas.might have to retain a bit of that,.but a good veteran skater and good defender on the left side

I feel like the least likely thing they do is stick at 22

We've had a ton of 1st rounders these past few years. Would love to see them package it w/ Chytil and/or Buch or another player in our system for a true #2 Center.

And I just want to say Im not in the dump Chytil camp, but his ELC runs out after this year..no?

I just don't think we will know till closer to when the pick comes up. A team might want to wait to make sure a player they want is on the board before they pull the trade. Might keep us in suspense all night

yeah, I don't know at this point what the bigger priority is, the #2 center or the LHD

guaranteed, the LHD spot will be addressed, the only question is how big

stopgap or big acquisition, that's the question

The other problem we have is the expansion draft and making sure we have the available players to leave unprotected.

the only thing we have to worry about is the goalie to expose

they are gonna expose Hajek, Howden, Lias, Gauthier

I like Nate, but he has 5 yrs left on his extension @ almost $6mill/. At his age, it is too many years and he doesn't really fit into our rebuild.

He actually plays the right side. He did play LD in Washington so it's possible. PED issue has to be evaluated as well.

I think you can substitute Lemieux for Gauthier.

maybe, I hope that's a clear cut thing next June where Gauthier has been so good we wouldn't dare of leaving him exposed

Well, there's also a chance both get protected (or exposed).

Well, we dont exactly know they keep Georgiev. They may sell high on him and bring in a temp back up for 2 yrs to leave unprotected. UNLESS, they feel that next year other teams will be more ripe for the plucking.
