Deangelo and 22 for monahan. Maybe other pieces involved. That would be my trade. Then sign Krug
- Slimtj100

Read the CGY blogs about the guy. The fans can’t wait to see him go. Has no edge, no emotion and soft as poop. They were saying in the playoffs he wouldn’t go to the tough areas, shy away from contact and didn’t have that next step/looked like he didn’t care. Not the guy I want.

Well, I guess I'm calling it the Newark to Toronto's NYC. Very important to work out the ratio in this little comparison. Maybe we're more like Atlantic City, we have the Canadian market on tackiness cornered!!!!
Can't really say, as I've never visited any of the US cities in question!!

You should come to Newark. Its beautiful.

You definitely don't want to be Newark.

Id only take Johnson if TB retains half his salary and only costs us a late pick or a low end prospect.

Johnson at 2.5 per? I could get on board with that, but definitely not for the full 5

If they are taking on TJ it better cost nothing. It's a salary dump by TB. I wouldn't mind him here on a reduced salary but certainly not at full price. He's also signed for 4 more years.

Isn't the a rule in conjunction with that which lets the team divert overages due to bonuses to the next cap year?

This is what i tweeted in response to that: “And despite the potential of bonus clauses being hit, the team still likely will have $17 mil or so in cap from the 23 that exists now. That’s b/c the likelihood of each player hitting those targets is remote at best. Gorton will leave enough space + Smith’s deal ends post 20-21“

If the players hit the bonuses it counts towards the following years cap. I think what this is saying is once your over the 7.5 in possible bonuses it counts towards this years cap. So if we’re at 9.5 million in bonuses, 2 million has to be put on this years cap.

Sounds like there have been plenty of calls to #NYR GM Jeff Gorton about availability of the No. 1 overall pick over last two months - including a (recent?) overture from #LAKings to swap No. 1 and No. 2.

Alas, we are told #NYR have zero intention of trading No. 1.

I honestly think this was such a dumb conversation, but I guess it happens with every team who has the #1 overall every year

I would argue though that our core is good enough to compensate for his being soft. I don't know if we have any purely grit guys, but our roster is built completely different than Calgary. We probably could shield him in that regard. You can't really argue about his production.

Thanks for sharing. That is informative, but as Jan points out, it's essentially a non issue. Only way it becomes a problem is if the Rangers take on a big contract, which....

Unless Johnson gets us another TB player the Rangers would actually want, I'd rather not touch him. If they take anyone in that scenario, I think Gourde's game translates better long term than Johnson.

Relatedly, they should see what Tomas Nosek wants. He's the type if low cost bottom 6 signing that always seems to show up in the playoffs. Could help with expansion exposure if trades occur too. He and DeMelo (on D) would both fit that role.

When you see stuff like shy’s away from contact, doesn’t have the extra compete button come playoff time, hard pass

His production in the playoffs seems solid too. I would take Monahan. He doesn't have to be the guy or even one of the top 3 guys for us to win in the playoffs.

I don't know, if hockey insiders and people in the organization were saying this it made hold more merit. Can't always go with what fans on a hockey forum think. A lot of us here always want Kreider, Chytill and Buch traded

it may be a case where Detroit knows Ottawa really wants him and makes them trade something to move from 5 to 4

In a draft like this, thats not a pick Id make. That team has far too many needs to jump on a goalie with the 4th pick.
