Personal rankings for the "consensus" top 10 prospects this year. Serve with large grains of salt.

TIER ONE: Lafreniere, Byfield, Rossi.

TIER TWO: Raymond, Perfetti, Stutzle

TIER ????: Askarov

TIER THREE: Drysdale, Holtz, Lundell

In the past I’ve been stanning Rossi pretty hard just because I think he’s very likely to be still available at No. 4 (assuming the first three off the board are the ones everyone expects) and I honestly don’t see a lot of separation between him, Lafreniere, and Byfield in terms of who I think has the highest ceiling (although Byfield and Laf might have higher floors, maybe).

That said I think I would be okay with taking either Rossi any of the tier 2 players. Lots of upside there.

Askarov, well. I don’t think that’s a smart bet at No. 4 but you can’t deny that the payoff would be massive if he does pan out. Just cross your fingers and hope the projections are actually correct this time (no small thing for an 18-year-old goalie).

Tier 3, I’m definitely going to be disappointed if we take any of these guys but not necessarily to the point of immediately calling for Yzerman's head or wanting to chuck my phone into a lake. I think my general attitude would be “welp I hate this pick but all right, Steve, go prove me wrong.”

Abdelkader sets a bad example for the young players. He's all about floating and cashing a paycheck. Yzerman likely saw this. This makes total sense to me. I've been saying it for years!

Nielsen is washed up but he still tries his best and is a good teammate.

Maybe he needs more grooming.....maybe he will come back for a few cups of coffee after the Swedish fish...I mean season....is/are over; maybe, gee I dunno. I think he needs some more time, I think the AHL will NOT operate this/next (?!?!) season and folks know that. Thus, this is a good move, give the kid some reps, work on the ole confidence/talent build.
