They were all set for them to take the Frenchie Lafriere! - HenryHockey
He was going to take him but Marty Lapointe told him it wasn't Lafreniere. Bergy was very disappointed and took Guhle instead. |

What a waste of a pic. When the only negative for drafting Askarov is the number attached to the pic, you pick Askarov. You'll need elite goaltending when the team is ready, he would have brought that. For years. Now instead well get a top 9 forward in a few years who won't produce as much points as some people drafted after. And from what I can see is just, it's risky to pick him that high. Its risky to pick anyone. - VonDouche
Surprising. Wondering if there’s something in the works for a more seasoned prospect G, or someone like Demko, etc....Whilst I’m not shippin’ chickens over Raymond, feeling more moves to come this week. Too many solid moves for cap-strapped teams to throw in the towel or stick people in the eye.

I go back to trusting Yzerman. He knows how to build a winner. |

Rinne has been on the decline for years. He's old now. Saros can't stop a beach ball. Askarov is a good pick for them. - gergeswillems
But not a good pick at 4? That doth naught make sense |

Stevie will likely draft a goalie with one of those second round picks. |

1) The correlation between draft position and NHL success is extremely weak for goalies. Much weaker than with skaters. Teenage goalies are notoriously hard to project and high end talent is often available in later rounds.
2) It is not nearly as hard to acquire an elite goalie as you think it is. Over the last 10 years combined, a narrow majority of Vezina finalists were playing for a team other than the one that drafted them.
Askarov was probably picked about where he deserved to be IMO. High potential reward but also high probability of busting too. |

I had him at #13. It's about what I expected. |

Take some time to season, but there’s going to be a FA signing Friday-ish to carry the mail. Not surprised to see a trade or 2 before then as well that could help quell our G angst... |
