This a good move with wide-ranging implications. I like it. Why was this done, one may ask: Shake up the make up; clear the way for young talent (JV to Swedish league for the year, soooooo); or there's a move afoot that will land the Wings with a valued player and cause some excitement. Hockey is a business (as you blogged about a few weeks back, J....good blog, btw; perspective, dontchaknow) so the need to build anticipation & interest is very high.

Yeah, I'm not necessarily shocked that the plan is for Veleno to play the whole year in Sweden. It's a really good league (third-best in the world for sure; definitely better than the AHL) so should hopefully be good for his development.

If this upcoming year were normal, no doubt Veleno would start in the AHL and get the opportunity to earn some callups here and there if he played well and/or a spot opens up due to injury.

But the AHL is off until at least January and probably won't come back at all. And for loans across the Atlantic, you're probably not going to recall a player unless you're giving him a spot to stay the rest of the year. Unless Veleno really blows up the SHL (highly unlikely) I just don't really see that happening.

Hronek and Zadina (obviously) and maybe Seider I think will get recalled once the NHL season starts. I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the prospects stay overseas all year.

I never thought it would happen, but there were several last year who wanted Kenny back after the Seider pick. It was ridiculous. If Yzerman goes off the board again I’m fine with it. He knows his stuff
