Yes you are, but your argument doesn't hold water. If NYR sees Schneider as the best prospect on the board then it doesn't matter. Getting the need at center filled now isn't going to be solved in the draft. Plenty of trades and signings in the future. The RHD position is good now, but what about 3 or fours years from now when all of the current RHD won't probably all be here?

Believe me, I'm no attacking you, context/tone gets lost a bit in these posts

- rrentz

(frank) you Ryan, lets fight.

I understand most of these guys aren't ready for a couple years, but why not draft where you are weakest and you might hit on it. I could make the same argument that they could have easily picked up a defenseman in a trade if they needed it.

Don't mind MDW, he's a little sensitive right now.

I don’t get how anyone could be upset with taking Schneider. They just took the fourth overall defenseman in the draft. Why if he turns out to be the best of the lot?

What if we already have a 2c in the pipeline and we don’t even know it yet?

There’s just no way to know, which is why bpa is always the best approach. Schneider was the “last top four defenseman in the draft”.

I think we hit a home run tonight

Until a day, a week or so when NYR acquires a good 2c. Patience boys.

I guess you'd be happier they pick a center who doesn't have what they see in Schneider?

- rrentz

I hope so.

And I get that Lapierre might be too injury-prone and Bourque might be too small, etc., but I would still, yes, like to see them address what I think is their biggest need. Kind of makes me wish that, like Ottawa or Jersey, they had three first-round picks! Again, I DO like what I'm hearing about Schneider. But I can feel both things at once -- excitement over the defensive pick and concern over the center position.

Maybe they like Henriksson better than Lapierre and Bourque

Not at all pleased with what we did with the second 1st round pick, again going away from need with guys like Zary and Brisson available, not really sure what we need with another right handed defenseman over a Center

He's the 4th rated dman in a draft that is universally agreed to be a weak draft for dmen. He's BPA only in media projections. In terms of upside, he's on nobody's list. In the end he could be a Jacob Slavin with an edge which would be amazing, so we'll all root for the guy but with all these forwards, it's a weird pick. Surprised some folks around the league.

Frankly, this is the most cordial debate on a non top 2 pick on this board in years, so that's a good reason to raise a glass. Slainte boys!

Yeah, I'm not mad at all, I just didn't care for the pick and would have went center. Now if it was a dude named Olaf I would have flipped my poop.

And to be clear, its nothing against the player , its the position.

So (frank) all you who don't agree with me.

Listen, if the guy ranked 19th in the draft isn't available at 20, we will just take the guy ranked 58th. That's a sound draft strategy.
