Sorry for how long this is lol. But this is from draftsite. This profile makes me tingle in certain places
-“Big strong defender who has some nasty sprinkled on top. Will never be mistaken for a new age defenseman, he does make smart decisions as an attacker on both the power play and even strength. This big man is good in his pivots, an excellent puck mover, and a crisp passer in transition. He has no qualms about jumping into the play, but he makes the most impact as a devasting checker and smart defensive zone player who has an active stick that disrupts the passing lanes. Is smart and strong in te neutral zone but absolutely at home in his defensiev zone. Is developing some offensive upside which might dispel the opinion that he is a big mobile stay at home defender and just that. Schnieder’s was a stay at home defender, but was then asked to carry a bigger load offensively and he has stepped up in his offensive game with aggressive carries on odd man breaks and use of his big shot. nd at this point, Braden Schneider hasn't worked out the best option part of his puck possessions in the attack zone, so he has to read and build better vision to be in tune with the on-ice give and takes that occur instantaneously. Far from a finished product, but there is plenty there to work with. He can one hand push the defender out of the play, cross body check him, or physically rock him to make a play and does.He still lands his big hits, and is noticeable in his quickness in defensive zone retrivals by way of simple transition plays out. Far from a finished product, but there is plenty there to work with. He can one hand push the defender out of the play, cross body check him, or physically rock him to make a play and does. There is a calm reserve that tempers his aggression, in the same way the in his prime Brent Seabrook took care of business. Stays inside the rules and handles his business. Schnieder's physicality and aggression is of the vintage Brent Seabrook type, where it isn't as overt when he exerts it.” - Slimtj100
RHD is one of those positions that an excess is not a bad thing.
I see this draft going the direction of character and leadership. Laf and Schneider are big and nasty players. Previous were skill and defense. They have done this rebuild amazingly. Just need these kids to pan out now

Saw this tweet just now
Last 5 WHL players taken in the first round by the Rangers:
Braden Schneider
Dylan McIlrath 2010
Dan Blackburn 2001
Pavel Brendl 1999
Jamie Lundmark 1999
Yea this is not a group he wants to be a part of haha - TPC
I just think it wasn't the smartest pick based on the teams needs. And yeah, last time I heard big physical defenseman not overly offensive, didn't work out so well.

True on RHD. Maybe Trouba and his never ending string of boats is sent packing
I think they thought NJ was taking him, why they moved up. - airjan23
I was hoping we would, then we picked a guy that was pegged for the late 2nd round. If we were reaching for a Dman Wallinder and Poirier were out there. I have no idea what we just did.
Just my opinion is that they have much more need for other areas. Look, I hope the kid turns into a monster, but I think as of right now, its not the smartest pick - mdw7413
Those areas of need can still be addressed. And they’re areas of need for right now. No matter who they took at 19oa, they’re not going to help us next year.
I like the pick. Keeps him away from NJ, adds character, size, speed, strength and grit to an otherwise skillful/finesse right side (other than Trouba).
Miller/Schneider is a BIG pairing (have said that about Miller/Trouba, too)
I thought I accidentally turned on an old NBA or NFL draft for a second, because I sure as poop didn't look at that guy in the first round. - smellmyfinger
You’ve gotta think something is going to happen on defense for us. The only player over 26 is smith. Not a bad thing but there’s gotta be a move for a vet coming
