Would love for the Jets to sign both Bobby Ryan and Kyle Turris. Both could be had for a combined 3 million and would easily form the best third line in the league.

I'm wondering if Wennberg gets bought out by Columbus, could be a guy worth taking a flyer on a one year deal, gonna be lots of decent players that'll have to take a cheap deal if they want a job.

almost had me, was going to try to say something intelligent, thought better of it. Wrote something mean, listened to the little angel on my left shoulder and changed it, decided just to call it out and preserve other posters from getting sucked into this vortex.

This is inevitably going to turn into another version of that experiment where they got two different AI to talk to eachother, until the AI’s created a language no one understood, so they panicked and shut it down

Andreas Athanasiou is also not being qualified. Might be an interesting pickup. He did play on the same junior team as Scheifele and probably one of the few players in the league that can skate with Ehlers.

Dominick Kahun is the guy we should jump at if he’s available come free agency

Essentially we should be trying to get players that are not like the typical Chevy pickups like: Letestu, Gabriel Bourque, Anthony Peluso, Matt Hendricks, Anthony Bitteto, Logan Shaw, etc...

If they're wiling to spend to the cap they should be able to fill out the lineup with actual NHL players without overpaying for them.
I hope Chevy doesn't rush to sign a bunch of plugs and waits it out a bit, I'm sure there's gonna be some decent players still on the outside looking for a job.

We can’t take everyone. I for one would like to see harkins, Roslovic, Copp, Lowry and even Apples still get to play. Bet I’d absolutely approve bringing in 1 or 2 of these guys discussed than ever see another Letestu, Bourque, Shaw, Eakin and so on get another shift.

Yes!! But I also wouldn’t mind an agitator, poop distributor who (Rexy) can still drive play!! We have a lot of similar players and need some balance and other things from players who are still net positive players. Like a Jake virtanen.

Copp, Roslovic ,Lowry , Applleton have been here long enough to know the system quite well and have familiarity with their teammates, and how they will react in various circumstances during play. These are very important factors. So whatever the final changes are I imagine they will be to get some tougher players in .

I mentioned UFA Patrik Marroon in an earlier thread as that type of guy that the Jets could use. There are not many Stanley Cup-winning teams that were not loaded with veterans. The Jets have lots of youth so now its time to bring in a few more veteran players to fill the roster. Tory Krug also high on my personal wish list.

Maroon and Kahun would be perfect. And also sound fun to say together

If we are only bringing 2, I want to see Bobby Ryan and Kyle Turris!

Your assuming a lot of risk with Turris. If he fails, he plays 2C regardless. He could be a very, very big mistake

Jets need some toughness that can play before looking at players such as Duclair or AA.
Holland had AA, traded for him and did not qualify him. But, that also might be just a GM move so AA goes to UFA and then he can offer less on a short deal.

Duclair, why can't this guy stick on a team?

Maroon, yes, make the offer. 2 cups in two years, big bodied banger up front, sign him. 1x 1 mill

Looks like there could be lots of good players looking for new homes like Stasny, but I hope Chevy takes his time and gets the best deal. Even with Stasny though, VGK is going to have to step up and help take an almost 35 y/o (December) player with a 6.5 cap hit off their hands.

I am enjoying watching VGK finally having cap issues catch up with them after the team has enjoyed an orgy of free wheeling signings with a plethora of draft picks originating in the exp draft. Let them sweat some more, lol.

For a one year deal, I see no mistake. Worst case scenario, he goes on waivers and if he clears he goes to the Moose.

Duclair would have signed in Ottawa. It appears that Ottawa tried short changing him and as a result contract talks broke off and now he's a free agent. Ottawa also appears to have no interest in signing anyone over 24 years old.

I find this conversation about toughness to be interesting. There are not many "true goons" in the game anymore. We had a "tough team" the year before last and that one was not very successful either. I think one could advocate for getting guys who are hard on the puck or difficult to play against, but "toughness" for my books is very old school thinking. Essentially, the main question being asked is: what is meant by toughness?

there is a lot going on behind the scenes with him we are not aware of.

looking at everyone's wishes, lets compromise and do this.

sign Turris and Maroon to one year deals.

if per say Roslovic or Laine got moved, then we could look at Bobby Ryan as he is a RW but right now with Wheels, Laine, Roslo, Apples all RW. I don't see a need or fit.

Bobby Ryan plays both wings. He can slot in at left wing. I actually think Laine should play left wing as that his preference.

Today and tomorrow will be interesting!!!!!

if team knows ( which I fully believe they already do ) if they are signing or have a legit shot at a certain UFA they will have to clear the cap space before hand.

I think the Jets have their eyes on a UFA D, not sure exactly which one but I absolutely expect one to be signed tomorrow, and I am not guessing this to be Hamonic, tomorrow at least. or maybe i'm just hoping its not lol

if Peitrangelo and Vegas are a match then you'd have to wonder if that means a Stastny/Smidt to Winnipeg is on the table????

I think I explained his contract negotiations with Ottawa above. I am not asking Duclair to come in and be our primary offensive weapon. I think he would be an excellent complimentary piece. Yes he did score 2 in the last 30, I also believe that's when the pressure to carry the Sens offence was put on him, especially after he got the all star selection. Maybe he's a type of player that plays better when not in the spotlight? He definitely would not be in the spotlight here in Winnipeg.

maybe i'm higher on Harkins than most and hope he gets some looks at center this year. but who's spot do you give to ryan?

we know 100% he isn't taking, Connor, wheeler, Laine, or Ehlers spot;

then we have Copp, Roslovic, Harkins;

now more likely he could take Apples or Perreault spot but that's 9 wingers!! or at least 8 if you pencil in Wheels or Copp at center.

so if we also want a Maroon and possibly another center, where do they all fit?

I also hope at least!!! Gustaffson and Vessalainen get long looks and a chance.

I read that Ottawa offered him a significant raise but it wasn't enough for him.
two sides to every story so who knows which side is telling the truth here. I don't trust Ottawa but I also don't trust a kid whos burned bridges on 5 other teams already.

and I'll add, Ottawa could have qualified him with a minimum raise to keep him, but after trying to negotiate with him, as he represented himself they opted to not keep him and just let him go
