Kahun is good for 2.75 million. Not 4 million

You are right Pach's, so his AAV is 3.775mill, so he would probably ask for atleast that with Arb rights. Is he worth that yet.
- Buff36

The above is not remotely true, as his first contract is a standard ELC, which means he only meets that high number mark if he hit all bonuses, which he did not.

His salary was $925K.

Remember when this same board almost collectively stroked out while waiting for Vesey to choose his team.

I 'member.

- Powerslave

Is that when Vesey had not played one NHL game compared to Kahun who has already shown promise through 138 NHL games?

Just going off what his AAV was on CapFriendly and that said 3.77.

Kahun is like literally the picture perfect middle six utility player.

Goals : ✔️

Defense: ✔️

Ability to play C/W : ✔️

Speed and forechecking : ✔️

Yeah, I’m sure we’re gonna get that value out of some 30 year old UFA on the open market that we totally won’t have to overpay to play in Buffalo

- sbroads24

Kahun is roughly example #592 over the last decade of the team clearly having little idea of what constitutes a quality player.

They've got a quality middle 6 player who won't be expensive, but they want to continue believing Montour is an LHD who took steps forward last year when anybody with eyes and a brain can see Montour took steps backward last year.

Kahun was never getting $4M. Certainly not from an arbitrator.

Every ELC contract says that, but the AAV is not the reality.

On his third team? Ask Chad Iknowitallofits the stats on players and their career success if they go to their 4th team after 138 NHL games?

The Blackhawks wanted Maatta and had to give up Kahun as part of the deal.

The Penguins GM Rutherford has made a series of mystifying moves the past 2 years and was roasted for that deal with the Sabres, along with many others.

A ludicrous GM making another bad deal means the player he traded is damaged goods? That's rich.

Kahun. Most productive player to not get a QO. But yes, the Buffalo Sabres and their powerhouse roster is too good to give him $.

- sbroads24

Especially because if I’m reading the QO rules right he was only making 925k which means his QO was only 105%.

I hope so as he's a quality middle six forward that they need and it would be ridiculous to lose him due to cheapness when we can all name multiple other players that could go before him if saving money is necessary.

Just nonsensical to risk him walking away.

I think they might get a deal done, but when you tell fans in a press conference that priority 1 is improving the roster, you don’t let a cheap middle six player walk over arbitration for a year.

I could make up excuses for why water is wet and the sky is blue but the truth is the truth. He was expendable, tradeable, and most likely two teams didn't want to deal with the arbitration award he would be awarded. Maybe he will stay but it is not catastrophic if he doesn't especially this early in the offseason. I think some people need to take a chill pill.

Less, as the QO does not include the bonus. It only looks at his base salary, which was $832,500.

Just seems risky to loose a good player over less than a million.

So the truth is the truth or is it most likely? Which one of those better meets your narrative that teams know what they are doing? Have you failed to see all the bad moves the Penguins and Sabres have made for at least the past 2 years?

It's a total myth that he was going to receive some large arbitration award.

EROD got 2 mill in arbitration that is what they were afraid of. If they rendered him a qualifying offer he could have walked away from negotiations and filed for arbitration and then if he got what he wanted they are stuck with it.

He’s a decent player
But hardly worth losing your minds over
Especially when his agent said they’re currently still negotiating

The sky won’t fall without Kahun guys
