Anyone know if there's a legal tampering period this year? I assume it happens anyway. Just curious
- jcragcrumple

There isn't. I don't know if it's specific to this offseason or not, though.

It is not all correct, as I have already outlined.

Opinions vary.

You may disagree with the value of the player to the team and the market, which is fair, but the points brought up in the post fit logic.

We're dealing with a flat cap, we're dealing with several high paid RFAs, and we're dealing with a lot of team turnover.

I don't like it, but I understand it.

Not this year by the looks of it.

Ok thanks. Am I right to remember it was a thing last year?

Off the top of my head I would say yes.

However I’m too lazy to look it up.

I thought they started doing that a couple years ago

- jcragcrumple

There is no legal tampering this year, and going forward.

It all happens illegally, I am certain.

Sabres go to arb and offer 1 year at $1.75M.

The players ask is 1 year at $3.5M.

Arbitrator awards 1 year $2.5-2.75M offer.

Sabres decide to walk away from a value contract for absolutely no reason.

I appreciate the length you guys are going though to debate this, while leaving personal insults out of it.

All opinions are warranted and I’m all for the discussion

Terry is just penny pinching simple as that.

Allan Walsh (Sports Agent) posted a tweet regarding the percentage of players who play in NHL games based on the round they are drafted.

So roughly 27 of 217 players drafted actually play games in the Nhl. 18 of 62 drafted in rounds 1 and 2 make it. The first round averages 13 players.

Only 9 of 155 players drafted in rounds 3-7 make the NHL and play in games.

Before this year there was a 5 (I think)-day negotiation window. I'm too lazy too look up if they got rid of that in the new CBA permanently or just for this year because of Covid economy.

EDIT: Taco says it's permanent.

In 56 games, and he produced at a top 25 forward rate.
- kingcong39

I know 39, that's why I keep saying 2yrs at 5.4 or 5.5mill is fair. He would have had a good shot at 45-50pts in a full season.

Probably.

No, they're probably not enough. But the off-season just started.

- Powerslave

Ive heard this for the past 5 off-seasons + now. and every year roughly the same team is put on the ice.

The team gets all the scrutiny it deserves and gets 0 benefit of the doubt.

I really don't think people realize how stifling a 3 year flat cap can be for all franchises.

This won't happen. But I just want to say, who the (frank) wants Hutton for a trade asset when the goalie market is absolutely flooded.

Go take a look at previous arbitration hearings.

The arbitrator always splits it down the middle.

9.5 times out of 10.

And this year is going to be any different ?

I don't know what Kahun would have gotten in Arb., but EROD got 2mill for what he brought. So Kahun could have gotten 3mill or so in Arb.

What does a one year arbitration award have to do with future years ?

Letting Kahun walk and signing a player to a 3 year deal to replace him would have more of an impact on future years
