This is the only example everyone has, its an outlier not a norm.

Literally the problem is past Arb awards. In today's NHL economy those players would get paid less, and splitting the baby results in an above-market deal. As one of the only teams with cap space, could they spend that money better elsewhere in FA? Will they? I don't know. But the assumptions in here are out of control.

I didn't even bother to stick around. The waters have settled a bit today. I understand the frustration but I also understand the circumstances. Hopefully they get him under contract and we can move onto the next guy.

I'm understand that I'm talking to you, the poolboy, and I dislike the Pegulas as much as the next guy, except you, but having a 3 year flat cap and no gate money is a serious detriment to all teams.

Max would have been 3.5 Million dollars for one year..... AND THEY STILL COULD HAVE WORKED ON A CONTRACT even if they qualified him.

Its a terrible decision.

Yeah, letting him walk for nothing is a bad look, no doubt. But they genuinely like the player and want to keep him, at an appropriate cost. As Adams stated, it's a surefire gamble.
