Did I just see that Josh Anderson signed a long term $5.5M deal with Montreal?

WHAT?

What happened to the flat cap impact was supposed to have? He's scored over 40 points once. Even with intangibles that seems very high even before the flat cap descended on the NHL.

Mercy!

Some interesting updates from Lazerus:

> Kubalik close to re-signing - expectation is that it'll be a three-year deal worth ~$3.8m/yr.
> Strome close to re-signing - expectation is that it'll be a two-year deal worth ~$2.5m/yr.
> Subban expected to re-sign. The term is TBD - will compete with Delia and Lankinen for the starter's role. Hawks will not be goalie chasing tomorrow.

So here's some quick back of the napkin math:

$11.1m in cap space (starting)
$4.8m after re-signing Kubalik and Strome
$4m after Subban/Lankinen is added to roster as back-up

Roster is now at 21.

Pius Suter and Lucas Carlsson makes the opening day roster. Roster is now at a complete 23.

$2.4m in cap space remaining, without factoring any outside transactions.

Assuming you want/need to clear a bit of salary:

> Bury Smith in the AHL results in $3.4m in cap space with 22 players on the roster
> Trade Shaw ($900k retained) to the Buffalo Sabres (example) for a 2021 4th round pick and 2022 3rd round pick.

Hawks now have 21 roster spots, and about $7.3 mil in cap space.

So what do we do with those two final roster spots?

They should either sign him or trade him, 3 int jump balls in 3 weeks, (frank)ing brutal

Trade him to Pittsburgh for Chase Claypool and then Nagy would have 2 Notre Dame receivers to NOT develop.
