who is Alex Cotton? - HenryHockey
Undrafted last year, defenceman Alex Cotton had an absolutely monster season and has been noticed as a draft re-entry. The Langley, British Columbia native led all WHL defencemen in points and was named to the league’s Second All-Star time. He put up 20 goals and 47 points for 67 points in 63 games for the Lethbridge Hurricanes. It was a real breakthrough after struggling in his first two seasons in the league.

Like, I know it probably doesn't matter and seventh rounders are almost worthless, but ugh.

Very cool pick for Draper to be able to make! Can’t find a highlight video. He did a leadership bow and arrow video though!

Yeah, didn’t warrant the potential arbitration. |

I actually don’t mind this pick at all. Got to see this kid skate a few times. He’s got a lot going for him. He will have to work really hard to make it to the league |

I’ve actually come partway around on Bowey. When we acquired him I thought he was terrible with basically no redeeming qualities. Since then I think he actually is better than he looks in the offensive zone, but still terrible defensively.
Overall he’s still a pretty bad player since the brutal D more than cancels out the semi-respectable offense, but also with him and Green gone, the current Red Wings defenseman with the second-highest point total from last season is, uh, Marc Staal.
I mean, I don’t really care either way since Bowey is not good and never will be, but at the very least I’m a little puzzled why we re-signed Biega if the plan was to just let Bowey walk for nothing. I’d rather have Bowey. Qualifying him for $1 million isn’t unreasonable either. If he files for arb and the Wings don’t like the ruling they can let him walk then.

I finally posted Kyle Aucoin on the front page. Found a compilation with him scoring his first USHL goal. Slim pickings. D man picked 156th

There’s a new hiccup in arbitration that I wasn’t aware of. The team has to sign the player if the number comes in under a certain $. For Athanasiou, it was a 3 million qualifier but 4.5 mil and the team had to accept and sign. Anything above and they can walk. I don’t know if that’s new (it’s the first I’ve heard of it). Bowey may have been in the range of 2 mil at the “have to sign” number |

I don’t mind that at all. As long as the $ are good. I don’t know his “walk away” # but Ottawa didn’t want to risk it |

He found his stride in Ottawa, but he’s hit that twice in 5 seasons. Hopefully he’s going to continue that route |

Ok, just my own quick thoughts on the last two days. It’s difficult, because it’s the same feeling as last year. A little empty. Yzerman did his thing (expected that), but I was ready for a dman, centerman or even a goalie at 4. All the months of going over things goes by the wayside. Reality is that if this is a REALLY good draft, 3 of these players will be in the NHL. Just wanted to see something I was excited about, personally. No big trades or deals either. Just a lot of a long draft. |
