Who is Gruden? A roster spot move or a legit prospect?
- ChrisMS

the first one......probably wasn't even a top 20 prospect in Ottawa

Sens are building a playoff team. Toronto is an entertaining team. Playoff teams win championships and entertaining teams are only wet dreams.

Watching the US broadcast of the draft. Analyst (Reid) says watch for Sens to be playoff contender within 2 years. If not the Sens, perhaps North Dakota.

Absolutely love what Dorion has done.

Big, rough, physical.

Certainly not a chorus line of pretty dancers.

Love it.

Good points. Know nothing about those prospects accept that Peterka is super fast.
Klevan sounds meh. I didn't know North Dakota was the Sens farm team....

I should maybe correct myself... I anticipated Kleven as a pick, not that I really liked the idea picking Kleven. He's a physical guy, probably a decent 3rd pairing/PK sort of thing, who might pair up well with someone like Brannstrom or Thomson in a Master-Blaster kind of way. And you're right... the UND connection is getting to be a bit much (Wolanin, Bernard-Docker, Tychonick, Pinto, Sanderson, Kleven).

Scouting Report

Methot seems like a reasonable comparison.

We should maybe be on high alert in the 3rd/4th rounds for a prospect named Mitchell Miller... another d-man headed for UND. You'd hate to not have the full set.

I don't think so. I heard that with his final second round pick Dorion has been looking at Andre the Giant.

I mean, the picks are screaming "we only scouted these teams". Way to pinch that penny on scouting.

Not sure why you'd trade 2 picks to move up a few picks to draft a potential 3rd pairing guy. Again, many opportunities in round one to use assets to move up to get some pretty good players...

Maybe they are really focusing on guys who get along, and have played together before.

They locker room issues that have come up (twice?) in recent years may have made them really wary.

Sens last pick should be the UND coach.

Perhaps? Wonder if teams have done this before successfully?

Probably helps with the sign-ability of some of the higher-end kids coming out of that program to have their friends also in the Ottawa system. I imagine that sign-ability is more of a concern for this organization than others.

It’s literally the year for free agent goaltenders.

I’m not against the move, I’m just trying to figure out why do this when there’s another move to be had, where you don’t give up anything.

It was noted, but at the time Tkachuk hadn't even participated in a rookie camp yet, nobody knew he was going to be what he is.......I doubt it was a big factor in acquiring him.

2nd time through the draft, but crazy offensive skill (saw him play a few times).

he's 6'4, 230 RW, scored 46 goals in 50 games last year for Cape Breton....led the QMJHL in goals

Looks like we took him a bit early, but seems to be another player with a gifted shot. Ok with me.
