I am not surprised by the goalie picks. Honestly we only have Larmi and D'Orio as our goalie prospects. Neither have shown great promise at this point. Larmi every once in a while pulls a Fleury type athletic stop. Then gives up 3 goals on the next 3 shots. So I think we definitely needed some younger depth. |

I agree 100% with you but just go with what the team is now and see what happens. You're right, they may get really hot at the end of the year and into the playoffs and with two future Hall of Famers you never know what might happen.
But this idea of trading 1st round picks year after year and even worse trading a 3rd round pick for a washed up Patrick Marleua has to stop! - stevens87
Yeah I agree. Has to stop when the big boys retire. |

Just sign some undrafted college goalies until you strike gold. Free assets. Use picks on lottery forwards and ds with high offensive outputs in their respective leagues. Maybe ya hit a Kucherov down the line. |

Yea now I'd probably stop spending on the rentals, unless they are really showing they are gonna go on a serious run. Rental shopping usually sucks anyways.

The Pens have been getting pretty lucky on some of the college forwards/Dmen. Well I guess we'll see, but they've got some good ones. |

That is why he signed O'Connor and the defenseman. He will sign a veteran or 2 via free agency, but the reality is if DeSmith and Jarry miss any time (which Jarry has a history of missing games). We are going to need some good players in the pipeline to back them up. Or vice versa. Say Jarry goes off and continues his success. Then in a few years when his deal is up, wouldn't it be nice to have another cheaper successful option?

Personally heard the Blomqvist pick is a "f*ckin real good pick there". From the team my buddy scouts for his teams 5 best available players since the pens pick in round 4 is ....
"Zion Nybeck, Pavel Novak, Martin Chromiak, Ryan Francis, William Villeneuve. If you get any of those 5 in round 5 its a real good pick"

Marshal is pretty damn out on our second pick here. Says even if we hadn't picked a goalie with our first pick, this one was a serious reach in the top 100.
Fortunately, the draft is somewhat small potatoes compared to moves that will affect us this year. Unfortunately, we also just devalued a pair of assets that could have been used for trades in the twilight of the Sid/Geno Era. |

We used players such as gustavsson, hallander, addison for trades to help the Sid/Malkin era no??? |

Yeah. The point I made in a previous post was that goalie prospects are notorious for having low value compared to forwards/defensemen because goalie development is really difficult to gage/predict. Picks are generally devalued on the trade market the moment they're made since each franchise evaluates prospects differently, and by picking back to back goalies we probably devalued them further than usual, especially if the second guy is as big a reach as Marshall is making him out to be. |

Goalies drafted by Vancouver in the last 10 years:
Arturs Silovs
Matthew Thiessen
Michael Diepietro
Brett McKenzie
Thatcher Demko
David Honzik
Jonathan Iilahti
Which ones qualify as defining Van as having that track record of decent scouting? - Beatnic57
- McKenzie wasn't a goalie.
- DiPietro is a TBD
- Demko looks really promising and was a solid pick considering the other goalies picked around that range don't look too hot right now
- Lack was signed as an undrafted prospect, he was a great find until hip surgery
- Silvos, Thiessen and Iilahti were all drafted in the 6th round or later

I think it will work out just fine, just like Murray and Jarry did. This Svejkovsky guy I never heard of. |

I’ve seen chromiak play. I expected him to be 3rd round. I’d love pitt to get him. When he’s on the ice he’s the only player you notice. |

Domi just got $5 mil x 2 years. Damn the Blue Jackets really made out here. Not really sure what happened on Montreal's end here. Wish we had a way to make that trade.
Puljujarvi also came back for sub $1.5 mil x 2 years. I don't think the Oilers were serious about dealing him unless it was a huge overpay, but that would have been an excellent flyer to take if it could have been swung. |

I supported once he was signed only lol He didn't work out afteral. The price and length was never right...
I wonder why we didn't draft William Villeneuve with our 4th RP. He's supposed to have Letang's style of play. |

He also followed it up by saying VAN was hot after him and were upset they didn’t land him. I don’t hate taking him, but I do dislike doubling down on it. |

I thought he was talking about the first goalie on that one. My mistake. Yeah I feel like the first goalie prospect is good, the second one is more of a dice roll that we decided we had to have and reached on. Would have much rather picked a forward at one of the two picks. |

Well given that Rutherford and Sullivan have been trying to convince Letang to change his style of play for like four years I am not surprised haha. |
