Just look at James Neal

Boston was rumoured to be after JV because they thought he could be used in a different role that would suit him better.

Sell him then, I don't care, just don't waste him into nothing.

Get some picks to clear some cap. Toffoli should be a priority imo, without him our second line looks weak.

Markus Nutivaara for Cliff Pu

He's a pretty solid #4/#5 dman that can play both sides, given away for a meh prospect.

Cap space this off-season is gold.

Only buyout that helped them was for Ferland so I'm not surprised nothing happened as I'm not even sure if they can buy him out as he might still be on LTIR.

Hopefully Markstrom, Toffoli and Stetcher go to market and realize that they won't get a better deal and sign cheap.

Otherwise I'm okay with signing some cheap UFAs like Gudas, Smith and Griess and hoarding cap space for when other teams get desperate.

It really does seem like this UFA market will be really deflated, especially with so many decent players being made available for trade as well, I'm glad Benning hasn't re-signed anyone yet.

So far I've seen:

Fleury
Schmidt
Martinez
Pacioretty
Stastny
Tuch

They must've gotten a hint or something from Petro's camp that he'll sign with them if they can make room.

Yeah, I think the beginning of UFA will be quiet with few deals.

(frank), that took me a while to find who he was traded too. Cliff Pu last I saw was traded to Buffalo. Geez took me 4 teams to find that trade.

Sounds like Petro wants to go to a contender and wants a boatload so it's a pretty small list. As much as Vegas is in cap trouble they have a lot of desirable players and prospects they can move. TB, Boston, Dallas (I don't consider them a contender) etc don't have the cap. Avs are another that could make it work.

Tuch's 4.75M a year for him to show up for 4 playoffs games.

I’d avoid both if long term. If I had to pick one, it’s whoever will accept the shorter contract.

Didn't realize he went for "future Considerations" at the TDL this year. 3 times now been traded.

That's a cap dump like Maatta to LA.

Yeah because he came out of shape to pre season and ended up scoring 18 goals and having a career year. That's JV's fault for having a career year.

18 goals and 18 assists in the regular season put him 7th on the team in scoring. 7th highest scoring player 6th among forwards and you put him on the 4th line in the playoffs. With players who had a combined 16 points in the regular season and his expectations should go up? You've got to be kidding.

- manvanfan

If JV had the work ethic of a real pro he wouldn't create his own problems & be a drag on the team. He only need look at himself he has had every opportunity if he’d only gets out of his own way.

I’ve read that the Yotes prefer dealing with Boston since they have a hard-on for more of their prospects but Boston won’t part with the ones they want. Seems like the Arizona GM is hoping that one of VAN/BOS suddenly up their offer at the last minute.

I still won’t be surprised if OEL ends up staying, the Yotes GM seems like a stubborn dude lol.

- Nucker101

He can be stubborn all he likes but very serious cap problems & a mandate to trim cash isn’t going away.

Nutivarra deal seems shady, it's not like he's overpaid at all like Maatta and he can actually skate unlike Maatta as well. Current Florida GM worked for Columbus as an assistant for years.

Even in this deflated market, I feel like if Nutivarra was a UFA, he'd get around 3-3.5M per year since he's got decent size, can skate, can move the puck, play both sides and play 20 mins a night so to see him moved in a pure dump either means this UFA market is really gonna crash or Columbus just did their old pal a solid.
