They’re worth that much? Haha...the point still stands, the Yotes owner is no longer only worth 50 million dollars.

The Canadiens have agreed to terms on a 7-year deal with forward Josh Anderson. (AAV $5.5M).

More details to come.
---------------------------------------------------------------
There was a comment last week about Sutter being extended without ever playing a game.

Anderson is the third player traded in two weeks that was extended without ever playing a game for his new team

Its a business they can't bleed money. New AZ GM just doesn't want to look bad in the trade and trying hard to hold out for more.

SJ gave up all that for a rental, OEL isn’t a rental, he’s signed long term, don’t kid yourself it means something.

Would I like it in seven years, probably not, but imo he’ll be very good for another six years.

- Pacificgem

If the US starts printing money to ride out covid(if Biden is elected) then inflation devalues the actual cost of the contract, right now inflation is 3 percent per year, in 6 years 100 dollars is only worth 82 dollars, if we hit 6 percent inflation(a real possibility) that 100 dollars is only worth 64 dollars.

OEL at 6m real value would not be ugly...

This is simple economics and was a prime driver in the cap increasing.

Get some picks to clear some cap. Toffoli should be a priority imo, without him our second line looks weak.
- pker2theend

We did fine in the PO's with Toffoli injured...why worry about whether he stays or not?

OEL isn’t some cap dump as it’s seemingly being perceived, the Coyotes want to save money and rebuild but this is a top quality defenseman. They’re, apparently, perfectly fine to keep him but don’t see the need for an 8 million dollar dman during a rebuild.

Ottawa traded Erik Karlsson for Chris Tierney, defenseman Dylan DeMelo, forward Rudolfs Balcers, the rights to unsigned draft choice forward Joshua Norris, San Jose's first-round draft pick in the 2019 or 2020 NHL Draft, a second-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Arizona isn’t going to take a cap dump/

- Pacificgem

I agree pretty much but that was in a different cap climate. Also OEL has the Yotes over a barrel & the Bruins backing out makes that even more so. All said the Yotes cap/cash problem are a big influence if OEL gets dealt.

Do I think we get OEL? 30/70 a yes
Is Armstrong under pressure? 90/10 a yes
Add it up it’s 60/40 OEL is a Canuck.

My reasoning is few options for Armstrong & time is his biggest enemy along with the above pressures I perceive make a trade occur. Biggest curiosity is we have not heard a single word on what JB has offered other than some speculations. That is quite astounding in todays leaky media world.

yeah, all good - I could possibly see demko being involved, as I stated earlier due to the expansion draft + JV + some kind of cap dump from us. Would AZ take that? Just don't see how OEL lands a canuck - which makes it weird that we haven't signed anyone yet.. maybe oel is the hold up?
- anavar

I can see that but wonder about the pick that JB has to give. Hoping it’s at most a 3rd. Tic toc Armstrong is on the clock lol

I’m curious to see how this shakes out, but my $money would be on OEL still being a Coyote after the noon deadline tomorrow. I don’t think the Canucks & Coyotes can work something out, and in time to sort out TT or Markstrom (if needed).

However...I wouldn’t be opposed to some packaging of JV, Demko or MDP, + one of {beagle, eriksson, sutter} for OEL. Or substitute Gaudette or a future 2nd round pick in place of JV. Would rather keep Demko but otherwise I just don’t see any of those other skaters to be part of the “core”, while OEL helps address a glaring weakness on the backend.

- SlightlyOffside

I prefer something like MDP/JV/LE/2nd.
LE cap hit is offset by real $ cost I’m hoping.

Also a 1 year 6.5m hit was easier to absorb than a 7 year 8.25. Especially when caps were going up every year. Now we have a flat cap and uncertainty on when it will ever start going up again. More teams + no cap uncertainty vs Significantly less teams and nothing but cap uncertainty.

This 👍

10.5 per year for 3 years after this is a LOT of real money on only 8.25m cap hit. When a team is bleeding money and Covid will only increase that loss...
- Retinalz

Very good point. Idk that 👍

Realistically the Canucks:

BB - EP - JTM
TP - BH - duclair or ?
JV - Gaudette - Rousell / sutter
Zac mac - Beagle - Motte / LE

D:
QH - Myers
Edler - OEL
OJ - Benn / ?

Goalie:
Demko
Cheaper older back up for 2 years

This is what I’m thinking it will be...Hope the young guys can grow and demko actually is ready. Secondary scoring will be hard. Maybe Lind is ready.

I’d like to see LE “assigned to the AHL” (or this years equivalent) for what-ever cap relief that provides (I thought it was something like $1M?)

Only one real rookie (OJ), which is consistent with TG, but not GMJB’S expectation of Hoglander being ready. Do you see him slotting in with Bo or not at all?

D pairings are odd, with the over-loading of LHD. Which of AE and OEL are playing the right side? Do you really want Hughes with Myers?

EDIT: cap savings on a buried one-way contract
2020-21: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000

Five years ago Benning gave up a 1st (McCann), a 2nd (33rd overall) and a 4th to acquire Gudbranson, today he’s a cap dump for a 5th ...........

I love how you always claim Jim traded a 1st in MCcann. He traded a B prospect. Not a 1st.

Yes but he wasn’t a Brackett pick so he was more like a 3rd
