i think players negotiated it this way because if everyone got to walk then theyd be ufas after most teams have blown their loads july 1st (usually) - johnnykarate
They just end up screwing another player then pretty much if the team is then made to unload someone else. |

Not the player’s problem. The team will have to find another way to be compliant (buyout, waiver, trade, LTIR, etc).
TML were very creative with this over the last couple of years...JB might want to check out what they did! - SlightlyOffside
Pridham he was with the NHL at the time the CBA was written. He knew the offseason LTIR loophole rule. |

being injured and put on LTIR are two different things.
no cap during playoffs means no reason for LTIR, ergo injured but no LTIR at the end of the season. - RealityChecker
So you're telling me if an injury occurs in the playoffs it doesn't count... sorry, I think you're wrong.

then they have to dump another player(s).
once the arbitration is awarded, both sides are stuck with each for a year at least. the player can't even be traded if i recall correctly. - RealityChecker
A year or 2 at the teams discretion.
Yes he cannot be traded. |

I know cap space is tight with just under 8m left, but I'm sure we could somehow get a 8m contract for Petro and offload a Sutter or Baertschi with a mid round pick to make it work.
While Petro is also 30. Much of an upgrade over Tanev and Stecher - canucks1986
7,948,122 according to cap friendly. Assuming LE and Baert to minors add another 2.150 to that.
If you listen to Benning Chatfield and OJ are going to play
OJ $863,333
JC RFA but probably like $700,000
Basically leaves 8.4 to sign Gaudette and Virtanen and add one more defencemen.
Which still includes the 3.5 for ferland who will be replaced by Hoglander $891,667

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it keeps everyone getting paid and helps slowly raise the collective value of contracts based on precedent. even if a team buys someone out that guys collecting good money and can sign another. or they make trades before the season starts |

Man it would be weird to see Tanev blocking a shot in front of Marky in Flames’ jerseys |

They're becoming an allstar team. They have to be cup favourites now. |

Explains why all the 3rd pairing D are getting around 4M this season. They should probably slow that down a tad bit. |

Would Aquilini really want to pay out 9m to players in the minors? 😂

If the player initiated the arbitration the team picks the years 1 or 2
If the team initiates it, the player chooses the years
I believe they can still be traded. It’s RFA offer sheet matches that ties the player to that team for at least a year |

Only Josh Leivo is registered on the IR for the Canucks. Ferland was technically “unfit to play” and not placed on the IR.
Still need the (voluntary) medical determination he would be unable to play the first 10 games or 24 days in the coming season. |

They also have the overage/bonuses which I think they can defer up to 50%? I'm hazy on those details.
Ferland might be replaced but it won't be until day 1 at best most likely a couple weeks into season at best as he has indicated he wants to try. Again with having an uninsured contract (rumour) I think there is very little chance he doesn't try. I don't understand how it plays put but I think if he can't play, he gets 0 dollars but nucks can go up to 3.5 over cap. They don't automatically get 3.5 in extra cap. It all depends on where they are currently at. |
