Good chat.
With the money we have left,
Either Tanev 3x4m, and Stretch 2x2m
Or Barrie 2x6m - Pres.cup
Option one, with dumping some cap for TT. |

Thankfully they don’t have the cap for him. He wants 7M+ long term - Nucker101
He wants to be the AP loser's new sweetheart. |

Been pounding that Holtby drum for a while now, so quite happy to see them walk away from Marky at that price
I think working with Clark is going to solidify Holtby's game up, the dude is a fantastic goalie coach.
Glad JB has grown on the job – now if he can get rid of a Sutter or Beagle, it'd be a pretty fantastic day. |

I predict a bounce back under iam clark for Holtby that insures Kraken take him. I like the signing, very little risk and 5x6 is too much right now |

I'm still withholding judgement on this, I don't think he's had much of a choice but to penny pinch for various reasons.
1) Flat cap
2) His previous overpays that no other teams wants to take on limiting his cap flexibility
3) Ownership apparently somewhat limiting the amount of real dollars he can spend this season
4) Expansion draft looming
I think he'd more aggressive and carefree if this was a normal year and he had more financial freedom. |

He's probably thinking of him as a cheap fix for the 6/7 D (we still have Benn) for spending on Tanev or Barrie. |

Kraken apparently are going with an analytical approach so I don't think Holtby will be high on their list unless he really plays well this year, |

All clubs go with a mixed approach. But that’s interesting they may be valuing analytics a little higher. |

People are freaking out about it, but I would be shocked if Green has him in his top 6, even if the Canucks don't sign a top 4 RHD. He wasn't even that good in the AHL lol. |

The only time I have heard his existence is when JB mentions him. |

For sure, I guess I meant to say more of an analytical approach, at least from what I've read. But every team has their own analytics, some probably more advanced and complex than the ones available to fans from websites/bloggers. |

The Marky 6x6 NMC deal is smelling a lot like LE and JB has learned plenty from that lol. Swede career year over 30 you don't pay big with NMC. Plus in this deflated term Covid market that deal stinks to high heaven. Watch Marky injuries take him the course of Schnieder too in steep decline from over use. |

Yeah, and probably some other random vet signing like Fantenberg last year, PTO's are always an option as well. Chatfield isn't playing unless there's multiple injuries or he has an amazing off-season and suddenly becomes a way better player. |

I agree to an extent, however...
- He could have still moved guys out if he wanted to, I'm sure Ottawa would have gladly taken LE for a 1st.
- The expansion draft isn't stopping him from signing players, he just has to be more aware of NMCs. Just a wrinkle for every team right now.
- He didn't sell the farm for OEL, and stood by his limits on Marky, TT, and Tanev (for now)
I'm not saying he's turned into a great GM, and yes he's limited himself in certain aspects, but I think he's gotten to known/learn from those various restrictions and is making smarter choices within them. |

Yikes, yes. A lot of pressure on the top 4, inevitably someone would be out injured! |

It'll be interesting to see which UFAs make it to day 3, day 4. I remember Ferland having a lot of $$$$ hype at the start of free agency last year, and he wasn't signed for a while, and the Canucks signed him for what everyone thought was a somewhat reduced amount.
In this flat cap world, what is that going to do to the second and third level players? |

Benning before trying to trade Virtanen: I was disappointed in Jake's play.
Benning before Virtanen's arb case: Jake will be a consistent 20 goal scorer moving forward.
Maybe Jim can write a book on the art of negotiation once his #Canucks tenure is over.
