Yes I looked, they made some moves but it wasn’t until his tenth season they went all in adding McDonagh and Miller, some higher end guys. I’m just of the opinion we have time, Pettersson and Hughes are gonna be good players for a long time. - Pacificgem
So much time.
That's why weeks ago I suggested trading Gaudette and Virtanen for picks. Probably 2nd and 3rd rounders could potentially been acquired for them. In 3-5 years those players could be better or worse or those picks used to acquire like the Colemans or Goodrow's. Cirelli was a 3rd round pick. |

And Hedman and Stamkos were drafted 1-2 - manvanfan
We got lucky because in a re-draft Pettersson would be 1st overall and Hughes would be 2nd or 3rd overall. |

This is tiresome and not worth the pixels. JV just isn't a good enough player despite having all the tools to be. Clearly you see otherwise. All good. - NewYorkNuck
He is uttering nonsensical trash. Don’t waste the brain cells. JV is a good complimentary top 6 player. Worst take on here in months. He is one of the worst players in the league at “complimenting” players. Every single player on the team produces/ controls offence better when away from him |

Solid drafting by Benning and Company. Now just think if they miss the playoffs next year and win a lotto spot just like Philly did and could draft another high end talent.
Brandt Clarke, Simon Edvinsson, Owen Power all very much have #1 Potential with size, speed.
Petey, Boeser, Horvat, Hughes and one of those 3 you probably wouldn't lose a hockey game. |

It's tiresome listening to fans try to defend someone who lacks maturity and after numerous meetings, offers of high level dieticians, chefs, trainers, JV still can't get it together. Did he put up good numbers? Sure, but so did dozens of other tweeners on other teams who are being walked away from because they're just going to be too expensive to keep around in a flat cap world and he's been given enough chances. He was drafted 6th overall as a 1st line RW power forward, he hasn't developed into that, hasn't earned that ice time and quite frankly never will. Saying he's a complimentary player on a line is saying he's useless unless everyone else does the work for him and he just sweeps up the pieces. You know who we had that wanted millions for that? Anson Carter, who basically just stayed in front of the net and let Daniel shoot the puck and let it bounce in off of his body or stick shaft and got 30 goals out of it. JV is exactly the same, the only difference is, he's a BC boy and too many people are fixated on having as many players from BC on the Canucks regardless of whether or not they're fits for the team or even worth the price.
For every Troy Stetcher who grew up here and worked his ass off to at least be worth attempting to resign (at a much lower price) you have JV who has all the tools, but no brains and no willingness to put it all together consistantly or even show that he CAN be consistant. I'm not going to be upset if he goes, I won't be upset if they keep him, but I will be upset if they try and spend assets to "give him someone who can drive the play" because frankly, that's a worst waste of time, resources and assets then trading him for something and wishing him well in his future endeavours. - DariusKnight

That’s fair. I just think he’s a straight up bad defender, he needs more sheltering than Hughes for sure. Just seems like a weird fit since he won’t be on PP1 either. To me he’s just not a fit here. - Nucker101
His defensive deficiencies are over rated. He's really good. |

I don't think Barrie is a good defender either, But he is a good puck mover and upgrades our PP2.
Hughes - Myers
Edler - Barrie would end up being our top 4. Makes me want OEL a but more lol. |

They made some moves in 2012, but they had St.Louis pissed at management for wussy footing it for years and demanded a trade out. Worked out for them in the end, but doesn't always. Do we want any of our good players to want out because management isn't investing in them with better players? |

The one thing Jim Benning has done well is to draft, I just wish he draft more, I don’t think you’re going to see this team not being competitive as there’s too many good young kids on the team right now. When the time is right add to that group because we saw they’re capable of elevating their games when it matters. |

Of course but imagine if they had penny pinching or meddling ownership, that talent would’ve been wasted |

Then how come whenever he’s been on the ice in recent seasons for both TO/COL, the other team gets a poop load of shots from the net front/slot area? |

PP2 upgrade is way down the list for me in terms of needs, especially since the first unit usually controls the puck so well that they eat up 60-80 seconds of every PP. |

Without JB ever being able to acquire more picks, the Canucks can't really make the same trades that Tampa has.
Tampa has acquired enough talent for years to come they can afford to get rid of picks.
Maybe in two years if some of the current prospect reach their top potential. |

As long as the term is short, he’d be nice. Most of the UFA goalies are old as (frank) so term is the key. |

In 2011 they had six picks and three of those guys played over 400 NHL games as well as one guy with over 100 games, (frank)in Mike Gillis |
