Hey all, tomorrow will be interesting. Not sure how “fast and furious” things will be, but I’ll be here. I’ll put up the “signing day” post around 11. Comments will be wide open (as always). I know it will be tough to keep track for anyone at work, I’ll do my best to re tweet the blog if and when Detroit makes a deal. Here’s to tomorrow!

its gonna be another long season. and a couple more..

ive raised this before. whats the plan to get a #1 C, a #1G and a #1D?
and by #1 I mean a star player.
you have to draft these right? they havent gotten lucky in the lottery..
would be nice if they win the lottery next season and get Shane Wright who is supposed to be the next John Tavares.. theres your #1C

Well 1C and 1D you pretty much have to draft those. 1G you can either sign as a UFA, trade for one or pick one in the draft (could get one in any round really).

If the Wings had drafted Rossi and he met expectations of being a Brayden Point, i think the Wings would have been fine down the middle with Larkin/Rossi and maybe Veleno/Ras or someone else as the 3rd line center. They still need a good top 2 center now with the Raymond pick.

They still need a top end point producing left handed defenseman. I think they will be fine on the right side with Seider/Hronek for their top 4. McIsaac might be able to play top 4 on the left but they need a point producer to pair with Seider.

Shane Wright is in the 2022 draft. The next draft is top defense heavy.

Brandt Clarke a 6'1, 181 right handed. A dynamic offensive defender who could have the highest ceiling of any player in the 2021 draft class. He has good size but needs to fill out his frame and his skating is elite. A potential number one defenseman in the future.

Carson Lambos 6'1, 201 left handed. A potential minute-eating two-way defender at the NHL level. An intriguing combination of speed, strength, and skill on the backend with top-pair upside.

Owen Power 6'5, 205 left handed. A big two-way defender who is an elder statesman for the draft class. Power has the size and skating ability that coach’s dream of in the modern day blueliner. Defensively stout, offensively productive.

Right now those are 3 guys slated to go in the top 5 for the next draft.

I want them to be a bit better but at least be entertaining to watch. This last season wasn't a tank season, it was a big wheel season missing the big wheel with the pedals. They need to improve just to get up to tanking.

There are actually quite a few Centers available next year at the top too.... if (read : when because Detroit) they miss out on Power, there is Kent Johnson, Matt Beniers, Aatu Raty and Chaz Lucious who all project as top picks and all are natural Centers.

If you are a Wolverines fan like me.... yoi see 3 names from this years team right there in Power, Johnson and Beniers.

D wise its Power, Clarke, the youngest Hughes, Lambos and probably Chakya who are in contention for the Top 10.

Legit could end up woth either a 1C or a 1D at the top of the draft next year.

Also if the runors are true and Varlomov is available, I'd take him in a heartbeat if the Isles threw in Wilde or Bellows and maybe a 3rd.

His contract is reasonable at 3x5 for his numbers.

Agreed, but also remember that they were on pace for 45 points last season and the next worst team in the NHL was on pace for 72. The Wings could get 50% better and still finish last.

I am 100% on board for another year of tanking but I sure wouldn't mind it if they could at least find a way to not get blown out almost every other game.

EDIT: Well, maybe second last, because I think Ottawa might win two games all season.

Arizona wants to dump money, why not look at Derek Stepan? Or is he a complete lost cause. One year left, center, right handed.
