Kahun will be signed. He and Kubalik played together in the juniors and will be on the line with Toews. |

Called the Saad trade but like everyone else, I’m a little curious about the return. Either it’s a full blow it up off season or Stan is trying to clear cap for a big trade. Regarding Zadorov, the kid is nasty stay at home D. He will smoke you and keep that crease clear. |

Or could be the agent didn't read the landscape correctly. I don't think it was handled poorly. It is always going to be emotional for a player to leave an organization that he has been a part of for 17 years. Given Crow's injuries the last little while it was probably time to move on.
Most of us don't like it but it prolly is the right move. - Elbows15
Agreed, it was time for him to move on or retire. Is sad. Just stood out to me that several players in last few years have gone public with complaints about how Stan handled their negotiations. Maybe just par for the course in the business of sports. |

If Stan made this trade last week he would have had the money to sign Crawford if you believe they tried to buy out Smith to get the additional money to sign him. |

Cirelli - wiz1901
If Stan is working on something bigger (like aquiring someone like a Cirelli) that's more acceptable, however, every move counts in a rebuild and Saad should have brought in more futures.
Still... I'll wait and see what Stan does next. |

Zadorov is only above average defensively if you don't adjust for him being in a bottom pairing role. There isn't anything in his analytics that suggests he's 2P quality at this stage but I guess him being only 25 means he has time but for a proven top 6 player and retaining... eh.

If he is a solid dman able to play 20 minutes a night then i have no problem with this trade. I also wonder how good he'd look standing in front of the goalie on the PP |

I’m beginning to wonder if maybe we over estimated Saad’s trade value in this cap climate. |

Wasn't there rumors about Saad being shopped last year during the trade dead line? |

I thought you are were pining for some physicality around our small defense.
We just got it for a player in Saad they were NOT going to re-sign.
Avs players loved him, and he plays in the middle pair much of the time...he gets shifted up and down, I believe. - wiz1901
Attn: Saad trade naysayers. Read the above
For clarity on this trade. I will look at Avalanche hockeybuzz site once this tradr is digested, to read their take. Suggest readers do likewise.
Please understand that Blackhawks had a need on defense and more Saad type players. We merely added from one, subtracted from another. More moves coming? Hold off on your judgment of Stan until you see how opening night roster performs. Too much quick unfair criticism of trade as imme c intended reaction. I don't like Saad leaving either. Let's see how it all works out. We have some AHL forwards whom could help, although they are not either NHL ready or top line. Of course Saad was not top line btw. |

Saad is at $6MM on this contract, ending after next season.
Given league finances, and the type of player Saad is, I think his next contract would be for that amount or a little less.
If so - affordable and doable by the Hawks. - StLBravesFan
You positive him and his rep agree that he should be less?
Do you know that Stan didn't approach him about an extension to see where they were at, and decided it was best to trade him now?
We always blast him for waiting too long to trade a player. |

I think Murphy and/or de Haan are next to go (and soon). - DarthKane
Here's a theory. Come the expansion draft next summer Hawks have to expose an experienced D and F who played something like a total of 70 games last season and next season or 45 games next season. Hawks move one of Keith, Seabs, deHaan or Murphy by next year, protect the other 3 and expose Zadarov as the experienced D.

He might play 18 minutes by default like Maatta did or if they move one of Keith, Murphy, or De Haan but on a good team like the Avs his minutes got slashed an average of only 15:04 in the playoffs because he wasn't very good. |

I have no inside information - just a general knowledge of the game and the league’s precarious situation at the moment.
Stan didn’t wait too long on this deal - didn’t work out too well, as of now. |

Yes, 4th in TOI behind only Kane, Toews, and Debrincat. And a part of 2 of Toews 3 most common line combos: Nylander-Saad, Kubalik-Saad. Kubalik-Caggiula was the 2nd most common but only by less than .5% of TOI share at ev than Kubalik-Saad. |
