No. You make your protected list and Seattle gets to pick one player from those who aren't protected.

You can only lose ONE player.

- Elbows15

Seems to me you don’t trade a proven top-sixer for someone to lose in the expansion draft.

Yea that makes no sense, i have to imagine that if Z is going to become a 20 minute dman it's going to happen pretty much now, if he can become the pain in the ass Chara is then this will be a nice trade for the Hawks

I have no inside information - just a general knowledge of the game and the league’s precarious situation at the moment.

Stan didn’t wait too long on this deal - didn’t work out too well, as of now.

- StLBravesFan

Joe Sakic is an extremely dangerous GM for a bean counter like Stanbo to deal with because he really knows a hockey player when he sees one and he never seems to overpay.

That said, I'm not too upset to see stone hands #20 go. If Mackinnon can't turn him into a 40 goal man nobody in the league can.

But to acknowledge Bowman's position, he probably had his mind made up that he wasn't going to negotiate another contract with the Saad negotiating team that includes his old man. And more importantly, he is on the hook to pay ADB $6.5M and its time for that kid to step up and be a front line player.

Not sure if Zadorov is fair trade value but at least the opposing forwards are going to have their heads up coming into the Hawk's zone unlike the way Vegas did whatever they wanted in there. The Bruins have gotten away with an immobile Chara for years by pairing him with somebody that can move. Maybe Bovqist can be our Charlie McAvoy.

Its a moot point as of now. Zadorov is only on a one year contract and would need to be either signed or tendered to be eligible. I think. Goalie RFAs who have been tendered are available to be plucked. Its unclear to me about RFAs position players.

Kane couldn't and he is a better passer than Mackinnon

RFAs as long as they have a qualifying offer can both be protected or selected by the expansion team. Only outgoing UFAs can't.

Yea i think Saad is what he is a solid power forward who will produce 50 to 55 points in a 82 game season, i think that's what he produced in Columbus and here

When Stan maes a trade which doesn’t seem to make sense, we keep saying “there must be another move or two coming” to make sense of the deal.

There usually hasn’t been.

Between Kane, Kubalik and ADB they are on the hook for about $22M per season in wingers. Moving Saad was inevitable, at this point he isnt a player that is going to improve much. 55 points on a losing team doesn't mean much.

LBR, will you be back posting for good? You're breaking down the fancies are always helpful but I have a feeling especially so now.

Question. If you're going full rebuild and not expecting to win do you find a way to lose Crow and go with any combo of Subban, Lankinen, Delia? In fact that indicates a tank to me. 30th ranked defense in SOG and HDCA that got worse and you delete 2 top 10 goalies. That's a tank.

Now if you're doing either don't you give valuable ice time to top prospects as you lose? The Hawks top prospects right now are Dmen and you added the Cossack who will take a roster slot and ice time from a Beudin, Kalnyuk or Carlsson.

And if you're rebuilding or tanking you want picks or legit prospects right? They did not accomplish that moving Saad.

And if you're rebuilding or tanking you wanna have cap space to take a bad contract for legit prospects or picks, right. Taking the Cossack's 3.2 mil hurts your cap space, right?

I'm a fan of Zadarov but as a 3rd pairing guy 3.2 is too much. And at 25 he can be a part of the group that makes a run in 3-4 yrs. 6ft 4in 235lb players can be much more useful than the fancies show. And I like having a "purpose player" playing D than forward.

If this is a true rebuild like the Rangers of 2017/18 this trade is a poor one. Lose, draft high, give your best prospects ice time to develop and evaluate them while losing, move assets for picks/prospects, use cap space to acquire picks/prospects.

No doubt there is more to come but they key tell of the Hawks' intentions are going with the in house goalies. ........ If this is a window in to how StanBow does a rebuild he'll be fired before the Hawks ever win again.

Zadorov could be a good partner for Boqvist I guess. Maybe his size and reach can help slow down forecheckers and give Boqvist time to make plays. Trying to find some positives.

I thought Saad had more value but during these COVID times, who knows if that wasn't the best offer.

I doubt Bowman picked the worse offer.
