Zadorov could be a good partner for Boqvist I guess. Maybe his size and reach can help slow down forecheckers and give Boqvist time to make plays. Trying to find some positives.
I thought Saad had more value but during these COVID times, who knows if that wasn't the best offer.
I doubt Bowman picked the worse offer. - Elbows15
Yep, not only to give a Boqvist time to make plays, but also to protect their young goalies. |

I’d still rather have Saad than a giant Russian. |

One would assume he went out looking for better offers - there were rumors that he was shopping Saad - but he seemingly got so little value back, he’d have been better off keeping Saad. It’s not like this deal satisfies a need that puts them into Cup contention next season.
Keith, deHaan, Seabrook, Murphy, Zadorov - that’s 5 out of the 7 defensive spots - add in Boqvist, and there’s only room for one prospect. Maybe one or two get moved - there’s still lots of time - but history says that expecting Stan to make a follow-up move usually leads to disappointment. |

Hmmm... or maybe he’ll just be another stiff chasing around in his own zone and caught out of position in JC’s modified man-on-man coverage system? |

One would think DeHaan is moveable, correct? His $/term isn’t prohibitive, regardless of the return one might expect (which I expect to be low). |

LBR, will you be back posting for good? You're breaking down the fancies are always helpful but I have a feeling especially so now.
Question. If you're going full rebuild and not expecting to win do you find a way to lose Crow and go with any combo of Subban, Lankinen, Delia? In fact that indicates a tank to me. 30th ranked defense in SOG and HDCA that got worse and you delete 2 top 10 goalies. That's a tank.
Now if you're doing either don't you give valuable ice time to top prospects as you lose? The Hawks top prospects right now are Dmen and you added the Cossack who will take a roster slot and ice time from a Beudin, Kalnyuk or Carlsson.
And if you're rebuilding or tanking you want picks or legit prospects right? They did not accomplish that moving Saad.
And if you're rebuilding or tanking you wanna have cap space to take a bad contract for legit prospects or picks, right. Taking the Cossack's 3.2 mil hurts your cap space, right?
I'm a fan of Zadarov but as a 3rd pairing guy 3.2 is too much. And at 25 he can be a part of the group that makes a run in 3-4 yrs. 6ft 4in 235lb players can be much more useful than the fancies show. And I like having a "purpose player" playing D than forward.
If this is a true rebuild like the Rangers of 2017/18 this trade is a poor one. Lose, draft high, give your best prospects ice time to develop and evaluate them while losing, move assets for picks/prospects, use cap space to acquire picks/prospects.
No doubt there is more to come but they key tell of the Hawks' intentions are going with the in house goalies. ........ If this is a window in to how StanBow does a rebuild he'll be fired before the Hawks ever win again. - Mr Ricochet
Idk I will try to drop by more. Always depends on workload honestly.
Yes, if I'm in full rebuild mode, I'm fine with moving on from guys like Saad and even Murphy and/or De Haan but you definitely need to get back more for the future than Zadorov. Not getting at least Bowers or Kaut back seems like a big mistake, even if it takes retaining more.
I dislike Zadorov for more than his stats - I don't actually think he's that good defensively just from when I watch him. I track a lot of Avs games the last 3 seasons so I watched him play a (frank) ton and there was a definitive reason he got less ice time as the season progressed. His biggest area of weakness imo is he made mental mistakes at the line and wasn't quick to recover + was often left out of position after his checks/hits. He was better when playing against lower quality of competition as a bottom pairing guy but that's not really a ringing endorsement. All that said, I don't hate him as a player if this was say the 2015-2017 Hawks teams where they might just need a little extra on the bottom pair but this isn't that.
And hell, I wouldn't mind them adding Zadorov in general the same way I didn't mind them adding Maatta even though they're both mostly bottom pair guys at ev but can PK. The issue is that it cost Saad to get someone like Zadorov vs them getting better value for the future or giving up a Kahun who is useful but not top 6. Even the Rangers kept Kreider because they knew they couldn't replace his value.
I agree with your that this is coming off as a poor rebuild atm. Maybe that change. This particular move just doesn't instill much confidence in future moves of non-NMC players. |

Another move or two is coming. They will add a forward. Assume they sign Strome for $2.5 mil, Suter is on the roster, and Smith is on LTIR. They only have 12 forwards, 7 dmen and 2 goalies. They have $9,328,930 in cap room.
I could see a variety of moves including taking on a bad contract with some sweeteners. Hopefully not MAF. |

Yesterday defensemen Ryan Murray 4.6M traded for a 5th and Erik Gundbradson 4M traded for a 5th. |

I thought I read it wax yesterday (Friday).
So Colorado was on his 10 team trade list.

Sure, they could promote any of their non-roster forwards to fill the slot. But I think another deal or signing is more likely.
Chalupa is non-roster. (per Capfriendly) |

So, Saad for Zad. Well, if we aren't going to be winning, at least we'll still be entertained. |

Jets don’t work in the vacuum of space. Pretty sure what you’re gonna want is a rocket.
Just saying. |

Saad was the type of forward the team needed about 2 more of. The already diminutive top 6 forward group just got smaller, and in all likelihood slower.
Plus Zadorov is a Russian which automatically makes him suspect.
But hey, at least the meathead “need more redass” contingent should be happy. After all, Hits=wins. - Ogilthorpe2
As long as Bowman is not done, i am still ok with this trade. Plus, if Saad was going to walk after next year, they got a guy that can help them in Zadorov. Cannot have all speedsters on the backend that aren’t physical. Zadorov definitely fills a need, regardless of what anybody says. Hawks Cup years, Seabs and Hammer weren’t afraid to lay the boom on you, and Zadorov will do that too!! |

Not saying you are stupid by any means, it isn’t like he is old, but nasty defensemen are hard to find, and he does fill a need. This guy is a NHL defender regardless of all the blasting he is taking. If I am wrong about him, I will eat CROW, like I always have done on this site. |
