This is all to do with the flat cap, he wants 7 years on a contender for big money no doubt But those opportunities are slim to nonexistent this year. Next year he’ll have many more suitors and a better idea of who the true contenders are.
This is no different than Barrie signing in Edmonton. Pad the stats with some elite players and look after the grandkids next year.

It needs to go, it's awful. Buffalo's not a particularly attractive city as it is, aside from city hall, and the Skyway just makes it worse.
