There's an actual possibility that he was going straight to arb and earning 3.5+ and that would screw with the Sabres' plans to add a more effective winger.

Ok.. We'll see if they add a more "effective" winger at a more reasonable cost(the cost can be more, but it needs to be justified by the player being better than Kahun).. I will be happy and eat crow if they do. I just seems strange to qualify Montour and try to play him at wing again for more than that 3.5 because we have a billion D then just pay Kahun to do that exact thing.

It's been said that Eichel really doesn't want to be with us.

Point is, his case was EXACTLY why they created RFA's.. so that a club has a little more control outside the ELC. But we didn't use that because we think Montour can be a really great winger.

It was hard because he could have chosen arbitration for a good amount for only 1 year and all the geniuses here think teams have no problem doing that.
