If I were the Sabres brass, I'd glue Cozens to Staal. Put him on his line. Put their stalls together. Put Cozens in his house - jcragcrumple
Cozens is going to be a good one.
I think he’s a safe bet. |

I've always really valued your opinion and appreciate the discussion.
When they signed girgs last season, or 2 seasons ago (last contract) for $ 1.6. Were the expectations 12 goals and 5th in the team in goal scoring?
Because, only 4 guys had more goals last season
10 million
9 million
3.75 million attached to a mega superstar
Rookie deal
1.6 was a steal .
8 million for 60 goals %, wise type steal of a deal. - Boss34
I understand why you're focused on goals, but his point totals the last 5 seasons were: 18, 16, 15, 18, 19. When you sign him, you're expecting 18 points. More likely the 7g 11a variety than the 12+7 version.
Kind of a boring topic compared to Hall, but it was just an odd unnecessary move. At this stage, it's sad that we don't trust a prospect to slide into that spot. That's the angle I could rant on.

But you hate the Cozens pick and think he’s a future 3C. So we’re searching for another 2C in one year again.
Unless maybe your tune is shifting. Or maybe you’re the only allowed to dislike draft things. Which is it? - sbroads24
Okay, but we are going into the season with a 2nd line center for the first time since ROR.
We can only play one season at a time. Cant have the team filled with potential, because most of that never hits.
At the conclusion of this season, I fully except them to re-evaluate the organization and add based on whats needed. |

But this wasn't a trade so idk why both needs to happen?
It's not difficult to identify that Taylor Hall is a good player worth signing.
I need this team to finally handle a draft well and not continue to pay guys who don't produce here.

If the Sabres are pretty much done now. At the end of this season they will/might need to
Find another 2C or re-sign Staal at 37 years old (If Cozens doesn't perform at a very good level at 19)
Re-sign Hall or let him walk in which case your looking to get another difference maker
Re-sign Dahlin. Re-sign Joker. Re-sign McCabe or search for 1-2 NHL LD men.
Re-sign Montour, let him walk, or trade him.
Figure out Reinhart if he just signs an arb award
Figure out Olofsson
That's a damn laundry list of things that need to be sorted out. They've deferred a lot of this to next offseason.
Find a goalie. |

When Staal hits 50 points playing with Skinner and Cozens, I fully expect he'll re-up for another year.
The synergy on line one is going to be off the charts. The synergy brothers just became triplets |

On an interview with Sportsnet, Taylor Hall went out of his way to bring up Eric Staal.
Said he’s a really good 2C with a lot of hockey left.
He was not probed, wasn’t asked about Staal. He was asked about Eichel and Dahlin and purposefully brought up Staal separately.
With how transparent Hall is I’ll take his word as genuine and believe him.
I’m expecting Staal to have a good year next year.
If the Sabres do damage and make the playoffs, I’m sure there will be players wanting to come here to play long term.

I definitely think it's very possible. And never said it wasn't.
I wouldv'e rather them go the route of getting an established one long term so the center spine of Eichel/Cozens/ whoever is set for a long time. |

Think this is every bit to do with Staal around the league and the respect that he's garnered, which is a good thing. A pros pro if you will.

I still think its possible to get out of the okposo contract. Look at what Vegas, hawks, leafs, penguins, and a few other teams have done the last few years.
You just need to pay up .....
And before you mention fleury not being dumped. Vegas dumped Stastny and nate Schimit to different teams.
If we got a 5th for 2nd okpooso Who would really care? - Sabretooth9
Not this offseason
No way |

Actually, it’s SMART, not “sad”
U think a prospect should come in & be playing tough defensive assignments against other teams’ top lines on a nightly basis?
That’s a recipe for disaster |
