I’m positive that Jack Eichel will be on another team in 365 days or less - sbroads24
While I don’t think you are wrong about Eichel..... what player did you expect to sign today?
Yes, we signed 3 AHL players. Fine. It sucks and the world is ending.
But toffoli, haula, koivu, fast, and other players mentioned with sources are all not signed yet.
Besides goalies like holby markstrum and henrik as “big” names signed.
Who did we miss? Tyler Ennis?? Kyler turris ?? The TJ brode deal? Wienburg ??
I really don’t feel like we missed out.
Let’s see how the next round of free agent contracts go. |

I am gonna stay positive, because there is still a lot of good players available. - Buff36
This
All the big name wingers are still available
3 teams are over the cap, there's trades to be made, if Pietrangelo goes to Vegas they will need to shed salary.
No ones happy with any of the signings but there is still plenty of time to make moves.
Lets hope GMKA's patience pays off in the long run.

Who the hell is Brandon Davidson? - Chris16
When Adams realized that even though Irwin shoots left he plays RD he had to sign an irrelevant LHD. I didn’t think he could sign a worse player than Irwin but he did with Davidson. If these two are destined for Rochester, fine, but why waste one way contracts on them? Anyway, what happened to letting the young kids play in Rochester?
Let’s hope tomorrow brings a UFA signing that is actually a NHL player. That would be really cool.... |

I mean the Panthers May lose Hoffman and Dadonov which will hurt but those “spare parts” all have very good defensive metrics and that team couldn’t defend to save their lives last year.
They should be able to defend better in front of Bob at the very least - Pegullaville
Zito definitely is focused on cleaning up the all around defensive mess that FL has become. There should still room left to re-sign Weegar and maybe keep one of Dadonov or Hoffman (depending on other offers they receive). They’d have plenty of space if they could trade Stralman.
Everything FL did today was to make the team tougher and harder to play against. When one says they want players that are hard to play against, some will equate that to simply mean hit more and punch some faces here and there, but it’s much more than that. I like what Zito had to say about being harder to play against, "It manifests itself in so many different ways – speed, intelligence, character, compete, consistency, discipline, intellect… It’s more than size, strength and physical play. Hopefully, we get a little bit of all of it."
I like the start Zito is off to as GM.

I think Rieder will definitely help the PK - something we sure could of used last season. I have no problem with the signing of Tobias Rieder. |

Definitely need to be able to replace the skill in the top 6 if Hoffman and Dadonov leave but as an outside perspective I’ve liked what the Panthers have done |

Does anybody claim Tyler Johnson? From Buffalos perspective, he’s 30 and 4 years at $5m is a little steep, but:
1. He’d get more Playing time in buffalo and probably would be a 40 point 3c??
2. Eichel Staal Johnson Lazard (or whomever) would look pretty good |

Yeah, here's what I think. While it's unlikely any of us has a clue about what's inside Darcy's head, and things like the salary cap, NTCs/NMCs, and the declining economy's impact on future revenues make it nearly impossible to trade anyone of any significance, it's not inconceivable that the Sabres could make a mid-season move.
Vanek, Roy, Miller, Pommer are probably not on the block since they represent the young core of this team and are all locked up long-term. We all know Vanek's contract is insane, but given the length and amount of the others, it seems unlikely to me there's a better deal out there. Remember Larry Quinn is a numbers guy, and 5 mil 6 years from now will be looking pretty good. Roy's deal is an especially favorable one for the club. You might even be able to throw Goose into this category b/c his value to the Sabres is high given his hustle and toughness.
Max, Kotalik, and Connolly are popular choices for a change of venue, but their UFA status would mean they'd need to go to a contender for the receiving team to be willing to assume the risk. That said, what's the likelihood of a contender sending the Sabres something worthy of a blockbuster? That's not even taking into account Max sucking for the last 2 years, Kotalik getting a reputation of being lazy, and (Tin) Connolly being more fragile than the leg lamp in A Christmas Story. This, coming from the guy who actually owns a Connolly jersey.
As far as young talent at forward goes, Stafford, MacArthur, Paille are the only roster players in that category. They're all tradable, but not enough to bring in an impact player. To me, the Sabres would need to include one of Mancari, Gerbe, or Kennedy to get another team interested. Possible, though Gerbe seems like he's got a future here.
Lastly, if they're really trying to fix the recent injury problem at defense, they're not going to trade any defensemen. Even still, it's more likely they'll do what they did last year and bring in a veteran like Nolan Pratt to temporarily fill the gap until Weber and Sekera are healthy again (a few weeks?). I haven't looked to see who like that is available, but they found someone last year and could probably do it again.
We Sabres fans have gotten used to the fact that Darcy rarely makes any moves. In fact, who really does anymore? I'd love to be wrong, but not at the expense of 26 / 9 / 30 / 29. You can have Peters. Twice. |

Lot of goals scored between the two of them. Sucks they’re both 30 as they start a new deal. Still possible they keep one of them. I guess it’s safe to assume that the offers made around the league haven’t been earth shattering, as none of the “big prizes” have signed as of yet. I wonder if we could see more shorter term deals signed as players bet on things improving post pandemic. |

They have eichel
They went cheap
Why did we tank for eichel if not to surround him with talent
