it's all part of Fast's plan to kill Brady Skjei in his sleep for that hit he layed on him in Toronto
- jimbro83

Thats what I said the other day. I hope Skjei is getting his apologies ready.

this take that "we gave Jack Johnson 1.15 mil we couldmt give Jesper Fast 2 million?" is one of the worst takes in years and I've seen several bloggers make it and even a Ranger writer

just pure stupidity

- jimbro83

Yea that is a dumb take

But I still can't believe Jack Johnson was the best option they could find at 1.15 million. Honestly would you rather have Staal for one more year at 5.7 million or have Johnson/Smith at a combined 5.45 million? Part of me leans toward Staal.

they lucked out that Detroit wasnt on Staal's NTC list and Detroit was a team that was wiling to take his whole cap hit

Supposedly the Staal move had to do with all ghe bonuses the Rangers had to pay so that they wouldnt get penalized against the cap.

yeah and if there was a team that was willing to take Brendan Smith and his cap hit I am sure the Rangers would love it

It’s cash allocation. There is a mild linkage. Will get a blog up on my of all this later today. Needless to see, if anyone saw my tweets last night, I am not happy and wonder what is the plan, as its not clear right now.

I feel the same way but not as upset over Fast. But I am curious what the plan is. I hope it isn't just to resign all the RFAs and run it back.

it's not the end of the world if it is the plan though, this could end up being a 48 game shortened season for all we know

maybe the best idea is to just get through this coming crazy season and regroup in next summer's free agency period

I think the plan might be that the top 6 is loaded and they are trying to find lines 3-4. So it makes sense that there aren't any big moves

JJ won't take much playing time away from young d, but Fast signing would take away from some of the young guys playing up front and getting a chance? Just trying to make sense of those two moves

JJ is one year and if he doesn't make the team his full cap hit can be buried in AHL

I'm with you, I don't get all the hate on this. I saw a couple of things online that said Blackwell is actually a really good player. I think Rooney is probably an upgrade over what we had.

I also don't view this year as we are contenders. Really need to get through this year, get rid of the contracts and go from there. As JD says, it's a process. Overall, I'm really excited for what they're building. Gonna be a great team for a long time.

if we signed fast for 3 years, then trading Joey Keane for Gauthier is senseless

I dont' think they are stanley cup contender. But I do think this should be a playoff team next year. Not sure if they are good enough if they just run it back mostly. I guess time will tell. Was just really hoping they would upgrade at 2C. I guess they still can but that was my biggest goal this offseason.

Tampa Bay has still done absolutely nothing to help their cap issues and Arizona is still desperate to get rid of about 20 mil in contracts

If the Rangers weren't where they are now, I would be telling these teams give me your 1sts and I will take your garbage.

A team like Ottawa could potentially have a another monster draft next year if they did this

If things continued normally last year, I think they would have been a playoff team anyway. I don't get how a lot of people think they have gotten worse this offseason. We got LAF, I expect Kakko and Chytil to be better. The D could be a problem, not going to lie. But maybe Miller comes in and makes the team. I think keeping Smith is actually a good move, with the cap the way it is he can switch from forward to defense as needed.

if nobody signs one of the Tampa guys to an offer sheet, I think the players have a collusion case
