They should ship Sceviour out for a 7th. Leave them with like 3.8 mill space. There's quality players to be had for less than that. Theres a crazy amount of quality players not signed right now.... And Jack Fn Johnson is hahaha - MattStrat
Yea blows my mind JJ got signed. |

Friedman and LeBrun have Tanev to Calgary. Dodged one there. Now JR has no choice but to spend our remaining cap on forwards! |

I guess JR decided to get low cost guys who won't score rather than high priced guys who won't score.
12 losses out of 13?

So, + or - on which ex pens have a bounce back (or better than when with us) season?
JJ
MM
Schultz
Bjug
Horny
Simon
Fleury
Derrick Pouliot (flyers)
Derrick Grant
Watch JJ and MM absolutely light it up hahaha. Honestly though I could see MM doing well depending on Ottawa’s D. Maybe a couple years from now. Schultz/Horny in the right deployment.

Bjugs, if he plays and scores some goals that's already better than with us haha. |

I’m going with Murray. I think the change of scenery will do him wonders, plus he might feel less pressure since he doesn’t have to look over his shoulder. He should be the clear number one in Ottawa.
I’m honestly rooting for him to turn it around. |

He was the clear #1 here, then he lost the net, twice. |

At least with Schultz it’s possible that he was bad last year due to injuries and bad this year due to Johnson. I think the reality is that he’s a limited player past his prime, but at least it’s possible he still has NHL games left in him. You could be the Rangers who just hired a mediocre assistant coach and for whatever reason decided to bring in his pet ECHLer to help him settle in. |

Newborn insomnia lead me to do some late night CapFriendly. We can actually fit T. Johnson under the cap by sending out Sceviour and sending Jankowski and one of Lafferty or ERod down. Would only have $150k left in cap space with no spare forward so not sure it works in practice even if it technically works on paper, but I wonder if the combo of trading out Sceviour and Riikola and LTIR’ing ZAR could get us to a workable cap situation to pick up Johnson off waivers. |

MM- he needed to go somewhere else where hopefully the goalie coach gets through to him
Bjugatad- if semi-healthy he's pretty good
Hornqvist- maybe gets back on top PP |

I have to say, I like to really like most of the moves so far this off-season. My only two quibbles are the Horny trade and I would have bought out instead of retained with Bjug for an extra $1.5M this year.
We definitely lacked center depth so I like the moves for Jankowski and ERod.
Still lots of big names out there, and good players that will probably go cheap. I wish we had more cap to be players, but I don't see any moves to gain cap space.
What a strange year. Not a lot of big names signed on day 1 and a lot of bargain contracts handed out (and some head-scratchers).
I still think there is 1 more move to be made, hopefully for a player we have discussed.
FLA and NSH have done pretty well, IMO. CGY didn't get the memo about a flat cap apparently. |

Hornqvist will have the best season but that isn't the question. My guess would be Bjugstad, even if he is just somewhat healthy that is a big improvement. None of the others move the needle for me.

I see your point. He was the #1 and had all the chances in the world to remain the starter and lost it on his own merits.
My point was that it’s not like he had scrubs behind him and probably knew that if he struggled he could be replaced, especially by his all star back up.
That being said, I suppose you could say that about any goaltender so it’s still a fair point that he lost the crease because of his own play just as much as Jarry’s. |

So how much cap space do we have? About $4.5M? That's enough to get a pretty good player in this market. |
