So how much cap space do we have? About $4.5M? That's enough to get a pretty good player in this market. - Hockey66
I hope something else is done, the bottom 6 is..blah |

I may have missed this but is TJ on waivers for purpose of buyout? If not and he isn’t claimed, what happens? |

According to DK's site, it's like 2.5 or so. |

I'm not sure if they should look at one good player or two solid guys who fall through the cracks.
Obviously Hoffman, Dadonov, Toffoli or Barrie would be great if you could get them for 1 year under that $4.5m but thats not happening.
Haula on a 1x$3M would be worth a shot.
Fast for a few years at $2.5M would be fine.
Stretcher would be a good option for D depth.
Soderberg or Granlund would be interesting but not at a high price or term.
Still think Kovalchuk would be valuable for the PP1.
Not FA but Palmeri seems like a great fit and would be a rental. Tyler Johnson is out there but something would have to give for the Pens to afford him.

Good question. Buy out seems unlikely, maybe they go a different route or trade with some salary retained. |

I have to say, I like to really like most of the moves so far this off-season. My only two quibbles are the Horny trade and I would have bought out instead of retained with Bjug for an extra $1.5M this year.
We definitely lacked center depth so I like the moves for Jankowski and ERod.
Still lots of big names out there, and good players that will probably go cheap. I wish we had more cap to be players, but I don't see any moves to gain cap space.
What a strange year. Not a lot of big names signed on day 1 and a lot of bargain contracts handed out (and some head-scratchers).
I still think there is 1 more move to be made, hopefully for a player we have discussed.
FLA and NSH have done pretty well, IMO. CGY didn't get the memo about a flat cap apparently. - Hockey66
If we bought out Horny then we wouldn't have bought out anyone else. You are only allowed to buyout one player. |

No buyout, just seeing if a team claims him. That was the initial report, at least. |

Was Schultz dragged by JJ the past two years, or has he himself faltered? His isolated impact is bad. Really bad. |

He hasn’t been the same since his ankle injury. JJ obviously wasn’t helping the situation |

I think he just got really banged up the last 2 years and really started hearing footsteps. Still has shoot the puck but probably needs a reset where he is sheltered for a while to get back his confidence, like happened going from edm to pit. |

I agree that he definitely wasn't the same player the last few years. I do have to say he didn't look like the same player after the long layoff and time to recover. Most are surprised he recieved a 4 million offer, because he is definitely not the same player he once was. Plus you could make the argument he only had one true solid year statistically for us. |

How much did he actually play with JJ considering he was hurt a lot? I agree, he had two pretty bad injuries and never looked the same. Especially after he returned from that broken leg. I think he could be serviceable with the right partner. Another scrub like JJ would be a disaster.
I feel bad for him. Couple of bad leg injuries and then the our classless GM kicks him in the nuts on the way out the door.

Calgary let Brodie walk (signed with Toronto for $5M) and sign C.Tanev for $4.5M. Head scratcher. |

Congrats bud! So awesome. Youll start getting half normal sleep again after 2 or 3 months haha - MattStrat
Haha thanks my guy. We actually had a really good night last night. He only really fussed one time. Only reason why I was up was because it was my dad's birthday and I had a few drinks at dinner, and I've gotten to the age now where alcohol (frank)s with my sleep rather than knocking me out. Had to change one diaper and never got back to sleep until like 5 am. |

"The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Frederick Gaudreau and goaltender Maxime Lagace to one-year contracts, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford."
The goalie has great AHL numbers... Prob where he'll stay... But never know |

Schultz had a career year the year he got that contract and we won our last Cup. After that, he's ranges from pretty bad to awful the past 3. |

Hahaha awesome, man. Yeah I have hard time going back to sleep if I wake that time myself...and I gave up consuming much of any alcohol at all a long time ago. Weakens the body and mind... Plus there's alot of alcoholism in close proximity to me so I'm kind of jaded with that substance in general, not to mention the fact it makes people fn idiots when they consume it haha.

JRs comments following yesterday's FA. He was happy to get the players be obtained. He feels Jankowski will play a bonino defensive center role (who can score if needed) with two speedy scoring wingers. He essentially feels the 3rd line will be solid this season. He is going to wait a day or 2 before he makes a move unless a good bargin comes his way. He will be looking for a RHD. Also hearing Pietrangelo didn't get the crazy offers from the teams in which we thought he would. That is why some believe he continues to weigh his options. |

Sort of screwed when injuries hit with just 12 forwards and no room to call one up though. It's close, but I think you'd need to clear out a little more space. |

Yea good signings for the Baby Pens, but I feel like that's all we have signed haha. I'm praying that Poulin can make the team with some impact on the third line. |

Yeah I think Riikola needs to be traded and replaced with a vet minimum 7th D.
I fully expect for yesterday's results to hold and our remaining cap space to be wasted on a D man we don't need. I just kinda wanted to see how realistic getting T Johnson without losing McCann was, and I think its possible, if tight. |
