Yeah I think Riikola needs to be traded and replaced with a vet minimum 7th D.

I fully expect for yesterday's results to hold and our remaining cap space to be wasted on a D man we don't need. I just kinda wanted to see how realistic getting T Johnson without losing McCann was, and I think its possible, if tight.

Matheson or petts needs to go. Too much money for both of them. I’d not now at some point in the year.

Depending on who they send down to WBS they have room for another $3-3.5 million player max. Would be worth seeing if Tampa will retain because aren't they past the buyout phase without an arbitration-eligible RFA?

JRs comments following yesterday's FA. He was happy to get the players be obtained. He feels Jankowski will play a bonino defensive center role (who can score if needed) with two speedy scoring wingers. He essentially feels the 3rd line will be solid this season. He is going to wait a day or 2 before he makes a move unless a good bargin comes his way. He will be looking for a RHD. Also hearing Pietrangelo didn't get the crazy offers from the teams in which we thought he would. That is why some believe he continues to weigh his options.

He probably won’t need to score. Everyone else can

If they even retain just $500k on Johnson this all becomes a ton more manageable for us.

Crag smith for 3 years, 3.1 per year. That’s a deal right there

Yeah, that's a nice fit for Boston. Surprised he went for that low.

Would of been nice fit for Pens too and that cap hit is totally manageable : /

Tyler Johnson fully cleared waivers... so... what does that mean for a non buyout window? I'm too lazy too look it up, or just not thinking clearly.

Hes back on Tampa and he makes 5 Million on his cap hit

Tampa will have to trade him and retain now. Or trade him to a team on his NTC "list" and add a massive sweetener, Or keep him and try to move someone else

Best part is moving Johnson was just Step 1. They needed to fully move Johnson and at LEAST 1 other 5 million dollar player's complete salary. If they get into the retain and trade game, they may have to move 3-4 pieces, or they are going to have to start adding their 2021, 2022 1st and 2nd round picks to find takers

Gotcha... him clearing is a good thing for the trade market.

This is where we can pretend Tampa would trade him with some money retained... and maybe take back Sceviour... or (frank), Johnson for Tanev and we throw in a mid pick This one might be super delusional

Exactly. They have no space. I dont know the specifics of the no trades, but teams with space arent good teams. Except colorado.

Nothing really. Just that he’s technically in the “AHL”. He won’t play an AHL minute though. If TB can’t unload him they’ll call him back up.

I've been fascinated for a while on how Tampa was going to get out of this. The fact that they literally can't even give away Johnson makes it even more difficult.

Other than Killorn, they all have full NTCs. Even a guy like Coburn. So they have to convince guys to willing leave the defending champs.

So Tampa lost their buyout opportunity on Johnson, that would have cost them about 1.5 Million x 8 years on their cap

I wonder if they would retain 1.5 in a trade for Sceviour. They could then easily dump the Sceviour contract on someone else

Johnson @3.5 for 4 years could be enticing?

They could probably do better if they were willing to retain 1.5 Million. I would love to be a fly on the wall and see what their options are

Rutherford should offer a 7th for him and have Tampa retain.

Just goes to show the GM's are all pu$$ies or are in cahoots

They are RIPE for offer sheets on their RFA's, yet I bet no one is even trying to pluck one right now

If I'm a cutthroat GM, I offersheet both Sergachev and Cernak and make Tampa choose 1 right now or absolutely cap strap themselves by matching on both

That is not unreasonable... but we are the Pens and that would be gifting us a lot of talent and cap help.

Are we throwing in a pick for that retaining? I feel like you might have to go up to a 2nd rounder for that.. which I'd do for 4 years of Johnson at 3.5
