Chucky can pass pretty good himslef. - DEDDIE
You can't honestly think that Tkachuk is even in the same league as Gaudreau. It's not slight against Tkachuk, but Gaudreau is one of the best in the league. Konecny would be a massive step down. |

Agreed. That line slows way down, too with Monahan and Tkachuk. |

Gaudreau is indeed one of the best PP & 3 on 3 overtime players in the league... its just that aside from that he brings very little and when big boy hockey starts, penalties are not called and overtime is 5 on 5.
I would not trade JG straight up for Konecny but with a 1st round sweetener from Philly I would. To me its all about getting better balance in a lineup that has failed to get it done when it counts 5 YEARS IN A ROW.
I would never suggest JG is not a very good player and we should give him away but I don't consider Konecny (RW), 1.25 mil in cap savings and a 1st as giving him away.
And yes I do think Chucky is a superior/more complete player than JG and without doubt our best LW. I also think with Mang, Bennett, Dube, Lucic behind Chucky at LW, the time is right to trade JG if a hockey deal exists in this environment. |

So you're just going to ignore that over a third of Konecny's points were on the PP and that Gaudreau had a better playoffs?

You make weird arguments... 1/3 Johnny's points were PP. |

I never said Konecny was better than JG I am saying I would trade JG for Konecny and a 1st.
We have 6 left shot LW and need a right shot RW badly.
Our position of strength is LW and I think JG is expendable to improve the team and aside from Chucky he will bring us the best return.
Bottom line I don't dislike JG, I just feel to better balance the team he should be moved if we can make a good old fashioned hockey trade.

I think I overvalue Gaudreau a little bit but I don’t think any trade involving him is a hockey trade because you don’t win a realistic trade with him involved. |

I would hate to see Iginla part 2.

Montreal just signed Toffoli for 4 years at 4 million per.

Toffoli of the board 4 x 4.25.
Wouldn't have hated that move. |

The way Iginla left put the team in a position to be competitive today. You need a bunch of high picks to rebuild your core and they kind of did that. Monahan, Bennett, Tkachuk are all Flames because they were bad after Iginla left. Imagine if they had also picked up basically anyone besides Poirier and Klimchuk or hit on any of their other picks.
Trading Gaudreau for Konecny and a low first-round pick just means they'll be mediocre forever. The Flames' window is now, so they should be using the full 2 seasons and playoffs and then resign him if things are still going well.
Everyone spent two years laughing at Ottawa, but look at them now. They're in a great position and would be even better if they had won the lottery. |

You know that Tre doesn't get a chance to match every UFA deal or trade before it happens right?
Maybe the guy wanted to go to Montreal

Still need another Dman and sign Mange.
If Vali and Tanev can stay healthy the D corps should be on par or better than last year. Some rest for Grampa Gio is not a bad thing either.
Really no major changes so far with the forwards. I expect something to happen.
Markstrom and Rittich should be a top 5 combo in the league.
Who replaces Janko and Reider on the PK?

Were I a betting man - would say some combination of Bennett/Ryan/Dube with Backlund and Lindholm being the first unit.
