5 years left at $6M per...I would be a bit tentative at that as well. Vegas had no choice. They were well over the cap with the Petro signing so I'm sure that played into the bargain price.

Was just looking at the remaining UFA’s and quite a few players out there still. Perhaps now would be the time to swoop in and grab someone at a bargain...
Athanisou - top 6
Hamonic
Soderberg - 3rd line C

not crazy about these guys, but at the right price maybe...

Thornton, Perry or Kovalchuk at league min
could round out the top 9.

Don't see it happening but would make an awesome story. Jumbo Joe comes back to where it all started and finally wins a Cup.

Hoffman's the only remaining legit top 6 forward. He's 31 and will likely demand 5 years minimum which means the out years will be an albatross...perfect typical Sweeney move. Done!

Jury is out on Sweeney’s drafts. He has t had much to work with. Vaak and Stud was a good draft. Lately he’s been reaching for USHL players.

I think the D will get by with Mccavoy taking over. They could use at the minimum a top 4 dman somewhere. Is Don waiting for Chara?

Please Please Don can you provide Krejci with a goal scoring winger! I’m kinda meh on Toffoli, but he would have been good at 4.25 mil.

My thoughts are still move Coyle up and you got a much more balanced top 6. At this point what else can you do? Besides landing Hoffman.

Krejci and Coyle are both better with the puck, so better to spread them out. They need to bring in another pure scorer. Mike Hoffman is the perfect player for that line in my opinion. Speed and a big shot.

The lack of activity is shocking.

Out. Way out. Way the (frank) out. LOL

I might entertain Joe just because of the entertainment factor.

In case anyone has forgotten, Thornton's true value is playmaking not scoring. So where does he fit in?

Perry would be an interesting 1 year move. Imagine the hate with Perry and Marchand on the same team.

Hoffman is the best option for sure but wondering what his potential contract does to their cap. Still have to sign Debrusk/Grez and likely bring in another dman with 11 mil left.

Over Coyle at Jumbo's age? Does this make you better or on par with Tampa? Does it even make you better than Ottawa?

EDIT: What is even the teams goal going into next year?

Well depends what direction they go.

Option A - keep Coyle at 3rd C with Smith and fill 2nd line with Hoffman or Athanisou

Option B - realize you blew it, lol, and sign a 3rd C for 700k - 2 mil. possibly Thornton or Soderberg. Move Coyle up the lineup to the wing, creating 2 good lines.
Take the forward $$ savings and improve the defence.

From a fan perspective it would be cool. From a winning perspective it makes zero sense.

Honestly, ill call it now. They will balk at paying Hoffman and end up signing Dadanov. Which honestly would be a pretty good signing.

Andres Athanasiou wont last more than a year here. Zero two way play.

AA had 30 goals 2 years ago, but that plus minus. Agreed, I think his 2 way game is non existent. Likely why he didn’t get qualified or signed yet.

AA is a one man show with not much hockey sense. He has blazing speed to beat someone one on one but shows nothing without the puck. Lots of solo effort.

Agreed...for all the bluster going into this off season about taking a hard look and making the hard decisions...guess that ends with not re-signing Krug (and maybe Chara). Big, bold moves Bruins...big, bold moves. Heck, even their draft was ridiculous...

They need to go all in. Tampa went all in and they were rewarded. The team is good enough and just needs that extra piece. They seem to consistently make that back up plan move. Especially at the deadline.

Maybe we are being impatient with the process. Craig Smith is a great depth move. Still a lot of free agents on the board.

The big free agents that would have made a meaningful difference are all gone so unless there is some sort of blockbuster trade coming down the pike (and we don't have a good track record of trades going in our favor), we are looking at a Bruins team that will perform about the same as last season. Do well in the regular season and flame out come playoff time.

This was the off-season to cash in on UFA’s at a reasonable cost and Don was sleeping at the wheel.
Gustafsson 1yr 3 mil was a heck of a signing. 2 yrs removed from a 60 point campaign. Could have used him in the top 4.

Dadanov seems like the better deal, either put him with Krejci or keep Kase up and put Dadanov with Coyle.

Dadanov - Coyle - Smith could be a formidable 3rd line.

Otherwise pick up Perry for one year and move either DeBrusk or Kase down with Coyle.

Might as well phone it in anyway. Marchand is out 4 months and Pasta is out 5 months after surgeries.

Both timelines from mid Sept. So Marchy is out for the first 2 weeks and Pasta out for the first 6 weeks assuming a Jan 1 start to the season.
