1 year 8mil. I'm guessing everybody was trying to get him to sign long term deals but not worth the salary he's worth. Thinks he'll get the money next off season and Sabres might trade him to a playoff team by the deadline anyway.

Smart move by Taylor. I wish him and the Sabers good luck. They are both desperate for some winning.

Carrick. The only other option is Walsh or Jacobs, or if Smith plays on the right side, and then White, Bahl or Okhotyuk play the left lol. This is why I have Smith on the left, because one would assume Carrick to be confidently better than Walsh, Jacobs, White, Bahl, Okhotyuk.
I mean.. the kids have to get a shot at some point, but it's not like they're 23 just sitting around collecting dust.. except Jacobs will be 25 in February, White will be 24 in May, Walsh will be 22 in April. Yes, we should sign a dman. Plus, Carrick will be gone after this season, opening a spot for a kid, and Subban/Butcher's deals expire after next season. Kids will get call-ups. Sign a decent dman better than all of the above and they can stick around when Carrick and Subban leave. That's my vote.

I think 2022-23 will be the year to make a push. Foote, Smith, Walsh, Okhotyuk, Bahl will all be done with their ELCs, and *hopefully* at least one of them will earn a decent pay increase. Johnsson and Severson will be in the last years of their deals. Holtz and Mercer will still be on their ELC, so we'll have space to play with there. We'll see what comes of Palms and Gusev, and what contract Hughes earns after 21-22. Gotta hope Hischier lives up to that 7.25 that we GAVE HIM for what we HOPE he will be, not at all for what he's done so far. Crazy. It IS a gamble, and a pricey one.. only working out if he's actually a 70+pt player. Show us 60 this year, pretty please.

In 22-23 I hope to see something like..

Bratt-Hischier-Palmieri
Foote-Hughes-Holtz
Johnsson-Zacha-Gusev
Kuokkanen-Boqvist-Mercer
Merkley

Murray-Severson
Bahl-Smith
Butcher-Hamonic

Walsh/Okhotyuk

If everyone is playing relative to what we hope they'll be in their development, this could be a dangerous team. I expect at least 25g each from Bratt, Hischier and Palms; 20g from Foote, 25 from Holtz, 15g/40a from Hughes, 20g from Johnsson and 25 from Gusev, with 15g/35a from Zacha.. and a nice steady 4th line that can put in 25 goals between the 3 of them. I don't think that's unrealistic. Could be some very nice depth. If one of Gusev or Palmieri get away we gotta bring back Coleman lol.

So since Tampa's Johnson cleared waivers that gets them out of cap hell, correct? It's still tight,.. but I'm not sure exactly how much Sergachev expects, or really how much he's actually worth.

Putting Smith with Carrick seems like a good way to ruin your best defensive prospect.

Which is not to dump on Carrick but you'd want smith with a strong defensive defenseman who can bail him out. Carrick hasn't even been able to establish himself in the league as a regular defenseman. That's why signing a guy like Harmonic could be a good add. Andy Greene would be a good mentor and could hold down 3rd line minutes.

Mike Morreale said on NHL Radio that he believes the Devils have another big deal in the works. At the very least another Johnsson type of deal

And per Corey Pronman, just another tidbit:
With a goal today, NJ prospect and recent 1st round pick Shakir Mukhamadullin recorded his 7th point of the KHL season in 17 games. The most points by a U19 defenseman in KHL history is 9 set by Zakhar Arzamastsev. He is tied in 2nd place with Dmitri Orlov and Andrei Mironov.

Is hamonic even that good? I keep referencing him because he's the best RD left other than Piet. But is he even worth a 3yr deal? I'm realizing how crazy of question that is when I look at our D situation lol. I just don't want him over 4yrs

Toffoli to Montreal and Colorado looking at Sami Vats.

Looks like the Devils continue being bargain basement shoppers.

Also good to note that scoring is really low in the KHL so players generally put up more points when they come over to NA because the talent around them is so much better. That's actually a lot of points for a defenseman over there.

Tyler Johnson cleared waivers, half of the Lightning players have NTC or NMC protection. I hope Fitz is calling every half hour about Sergachev.

Keep in mind that the cap is flat, and will likely remain this way next season. We can be one of 2 or 3 teams prepared to spend next season. Toffoli would have been great for a 1 year overpayment, but he wanted term and I am happy to pass on that contract. He is terribly inconsistent, and inking him until he is 32 would not be my first choice.

If Vats signs in Colorado, lets target Gustafsson.

I could see Dadonov. That would be great.

He could solve a lot of our RW worries. A 3 year deal would allow us to entertain trading Palms (I do not want to, but if talks sour we can't let him walk for nothing). And Holtz could be prepared to be a 2RW should the Palms era come to an end.

Dadanov and Gustafsson please!

I don't think big offer sheets make sense, but apparently this year it's like under 1.5mil offer sheet requires no comp back for the signing. So this year teams could actually poach RFAs who want to sign cheap 1 year deals to get them unlocked from their team. Definitely something Fitz could do to pick up some decent players.

I have no issue with how Fitz is running this offseason, its actually gone pretty well so far. I'm perfectly fine staying completely out of free agency besides a depth add and just trying to work the trade market. Toffoli and Stetcher were the only guys i had any interested in, and it doesnt bother me at all they went elsewhere. Fitzy essentially said he isnt going to go after these guys in free agency and i agree with that, so we better stay away from Hoffman. Give me another Johnsson type of deal instead of going into the free agent market

what about Cernak? would only cost us a 2nd. 6'4 and 235lbs and doesn't suck. We have one of the softest defenses in the league right now.
Smith- soft. Severson- soft. Murray- fragile. Subban- can't skate fast enough to connect on a check without being out of position. Butcher- soft. .. our only physical dman is Carrick. Skating and moving the puck is important, but so is making life miserable for those entering the zone willy-nilly (Stevens, hite, Daneyko). Bahl MIGHT pan out. Long-name MIGHT an out.. definitely wouldn't hurt to add 23y/o Cernak.

I would love Cernak. He's been at the top of my list for D targets since the Bolts won the cup, and he's actually a realistic option

I feel like he's one of the guys the Bolts want to keep because he'll be cheap to re-sign.

But out of their 3 RFA's hes by far the most likely to be moved. Nobody is helping them out without a legit sweetener, he's likely gonna be that sweetener if they arent giving up a 1st
